Collingwood was bad before Eddie came he did the greatest thing ever and poached the best coach in the land which saw us become a one of the most consistent best clubs for over a decade.
It's hard to see us going forwards rather backwards if he leaves even though we are in a mess.

Eddie's mistakes in the past 5 years are starting to take a very heavy toll on the club, whether it be poor Football-based decisions or his constant tarnishing of the Collingwood brand in the media with gaffes

Yes but getting rid of him doesn't mean we have a better replacement. Be careful what you wish for.

Yep, another focus on footy challenge is exactly what this club needs.

Agree with this, replace him for whom?

That's what should be explored. We need to move away from the notion of Eddie as our saviour and protector, it's no longer a healthy situation, in fact it's becoming toxic.

The Gubby affair is worth some angst, no use hiding a boil sort of thing, but not a total disaster. The next twelve months could see major change in our coaching department, I wouldn't want this to occur as part of a political (board) coup. Eddie should be around for at least another two years but announce his intention to retire early, giving a chance for alternatives to come out and hatchets to be put away.

I'm not agreeing with you or disagreeing, I would be keen to understand what potential candidates are out there and we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water, so to speak. A little like moving Heath Shaw along, he had the passion I think our Club is lacking ATM. Eddie has passion, he has made mistakes but he has also done a great deal for the Club as a whole.

Would like to see a proper transition that would see Eddie part of the Clubs fabric for years to come, maybe just not calling the shots or speaking for the Club in every comment he makes, allow him to be a media personality where there is some distance between he and the Club.

I hear ya re: orderly transitions; but I've also started to think a change in the executive decision making department has more urgency and importance than a change in the coaching department.

I hear Obama wants a job.... Seriously.... You don't need to know anything about the game to do Eddie's job... You just have to be a good businessman and more importantly, keep your face out of the papers!!

Those saying we should keep Eddie for lack of a good replacement are idiots... There would be countless replacements who, given the chance, could rebuild our football department so that it resembles something of a professional organisation.

As it stands, we're a joke!

Agree.
Numerous people could do a fine job as Ed has done.
It's not rocket science.
Mostly common sense with a degree of professionalism and good organisation.

People just thinking aloud who could fit the bill: John Bertrand, Michael Christian, John Wiley, Richard Alston, John Brumby, Hillary Clinton (just seeing if you've read this far)

agreed - but who is going to tap Eddie on the shoulder and tell him his time is up? His sons?

By any objective measurement, 18 years or whatever the exact length is, is too long for any one person to be in charge of a large organisation/company/government - time for renewal lest the person concerned thinks it's a job for life.

I'm sure there are plenty of well-credentialed candidates more than capable of doing the job - time for one of them to stand against Eddie.

I think Ed sees Collingwood and himself as part of each other.
He's not going anywhere.
Nobody is going to tap him
Harry Curtis record will look distant once Ed is done serving

He got what he deserved, hate the bloke but the 'its time' mantra would apply to Eddie. Old and tired and out of ideas.
It's time.

But regardless of your correct assertion, I just know Ed ain't going anywhere.....

Got a feeling that enemies would "disappear" in that instance

re the bolded part - 100% correct and that's half the problem, Collingwood is not just Eddie.

Just in defense of Eddie, if it was me in his position, you would have to pry me out of there.

It would be hard to let go but at some point you would have to weigh up what is in the best interests of the Club.

I'm not saying it is time for him to go, I'm not saying it's not either but it's definitely time for the discussion.
