Agree. Can't beat the punters in standing. I'll often sit for a Q, stand for a Q etc...

I'm kinda with mdc although if it wasn't a big match you'd be able to get seats anyway. I have been in standing room a few times. Most of the times are when I just had poor seats anyway. The standing room in the southern stand at the port prelim in 2003 was amazing.

I don't mind going to the standing area once every while. You don't really notice the fact that you're standing for 3 hours, generally you're too engrossed in the match and too tanked up to care.

Not keen on standing - shot knees and gone soft since we left Vic. Park. However, with no other option, I'll do it. Last time was against Footscray for the 2007 sell-out at Docklands. After half-time, I was able to walk into a (supposedly) all-ticketed area on L3 and take a seat - no questions asked!

funny you should mention that. happened to me at the 2nd north game. i didnt think to buy tickets thinking my afl membership would be enough, only to find it was a pretty sellout when getting to the gate. we got standing room tickets, stood for a quarter and then snapped up some vacant seats 5 min into the 2nd quarter.

In that situation i would have stayed had i not found any seats. but if i'm home and i have the option of getting standing room or staying home, then definitly staying home.

unless of course we're talking a final or something...

hmmm yeah i agreed if you got a choice between standing area and home i'd choose home. but i've had standing area 3 times once when i was little at victoria park (it was the first time i ate a meat pie against the egirls), 2nd time at the G was with mates and stood in the standing area for the hell of it (again against the egirls), and then collingwood vs hawthorn in 07 at the dome, and 07 collingwood vs adelaide at the dome.

I miss standing in the "Daicos pocket" at Vic Park... some of my greatest memories.

I'd stand on my head for 3 hours to watch the Pies play a practise match

I always stand. Used to stand behind the seating on level 3 on the AFL members wing up until a few years back when they stopped people standing there because it was obstructing the sponsorship signs (the almighty dollar). Since then I have moved to standing on level one on the same wing with the bar behind me.

Likewise at the Dome. Stand on the wing with bar behind me.

My best footy memories are from Victoria Park on the wing Standing.
Must admit though as you get older you do prefer to sit, although I would probably stand on my head if needed to watch a game.
It is however easier sitting and the comfort you have.
However, for a real footy experience nothing beats the old days where standing was virtually the norm at the local grounds.
Used to love the good old Victoria Park, but we have to move on with the times.

I would happily stand for 3 hours if no seats were available. I can't stand being at home when he Pies are playing in Melbourne, I try and get there any way I can.

l always sit, don't enjoy standing in the outer. l've been going to pies games for 20 years and l've always paid for a seat, except when vic park was a sell out then there was no choice ebut to stand.

I can understand why people want to stand but it ain't for me.

As my username suggests, yes i love standing at the footy. I stand behind the same bay in the southern stand at the G every game i go to and there is blokes there that i never see except for when i'm there yet for a couple of hours we are best mates.

The best (or worst) part is that it is right behind the members of the team we are playing so if we are winning it's great but you cop it from all angles if we are getting done.

Standing room at the dome is rubbish though, you seem too detached from the action
