Thought it started a little slow but some of it's best stuff rivals the best episodes and arcs from The Clone Wars series.

People die in it on a regular basis. Tarkin executes two officers for failing, and in one episode Ezra controls a AT-ST pilot with the Force, shooting their comrades then walking the vehicle over the platform to the pilot's death.

It is not really aimed for children.

Would definitely flip seeing Ezra being a Sith apprentice under Vader, but I don't think there is enough time between Rebels and Rogue One to do so.

Imo I'm still on the Ezra is Snoke theory.
Ezra would be about 60 years of age in The Force Awakens.
Snoke is neither dark nor light side user.
Ezra is clearly set up to be someone who embraces both.
Ezra looks a lot like Snoke (the nose/eyes area).
