MACKIE (79 wins) is 9 shy of NEWMAN for wins at KP. Could draw level next year with a R23 and QF win this year, and 7 home wins next year.

Dean Solomon's interim appointment as Gold Coast coach uncovers quite a range of stats.

First coach:

Drafted in the 1997 AFL Draft.
Who debuted in 1998.
Born in 1980.
Of a Queensland side born in the '80's.
born in 1980 and, in turn, the '80's who was coached by Kevin Sheedy.
Who played for Bendigo Pioneers.
Out of Solomon, Tarrant and Alvey.

Second coach born in the '80's. (Essendon's Matthew Egan was the first and he was born in 1983).
Both Solomon and Egan were interim coaches and their previous coaches (Hird and Eade) were sacked in R20. (2015 vs 2017.)

He becomes the youngest Gold Coast Suns coach.
He is the 3rd of the 2000 premiers to be coach. (Hird and Hardwick the others.)

At 189cm and 102kgs, Solomon becomes the tallest and heaviest Suns coach in their short existence.

Pretty sure Brendan Bolton was born in the 80s wasn't he? Or was it the 90s?

Least number of games that no player has ever retired on:

287*, 295**, 296, 298, 299***
308****, 309, 310, 314, 315

* Leigh Montagna looks likely to retire on 287 games
** Steve Johnson has played 290 games and could finish on 295 or 296
*** Jarrad McVeigh has played 296 games and could finish on 299 (unlikely)
**** Scott Thompson has played 308 games and may have already played his last game

I really hope they don't force Montagna into retirement to "clean the slate" - I'm sure he'd like to go on for 1 more year and notch up 300.

But that's not the reason he should go on.

He should go on because the team lacks on-field leadership.

If Montagna is retired, 2018 will be another "lost" year for the Saints, I'm almost sure of it, and it might well cost Richo his job.

Fairly safe assumption that Adelaide win the minor premiership.

Most home ground losses in the H&A season by non-Vic minor premiers:

3 - WC (2006), SY (2014), FR (2015), AD (2017)
2 - AD (2005), SY (2016)

Only WC went on to win the premiership. Adelaide will want to hope Swans don't finish top 4.

Incorrect. West coast did win the premiership. But none of the rest did.

Yanked from my Facebook status and they all concern today's victory by Richmond over Fremantle (155-51.)

Highest score vs Fremantle (prev. 148 in R7 2011)
That same game saw Freo kick a score of 99.

Highest margin vs Fremantle (previous best was 90 points in 1998 in R14 and that score was 145-55.)

First time in Freo's history they lost by 100+ points 3 times in a season (a personal best for them.)

Jacob Townsend's 6 goals was his personal best. (Prev career total was 4 goals and they were all kicked at GWS.)

Richmond's highest margin since 2014 (104 tonight vs 113 then with Jack Riewoldt kicking a career best 11 goals then.)

Their highest winning margin in a R22 game since 2013 which they won by 121 points vs GWS.

2nd game in a row Freo lost a game by 104 points.

Last week's 104 point loss to Sydney represented a reverse score for Ross Lyon as the only time before this season his side played a game which a score of 104 points with 143 as a winning score and 39 as a losing score was registered was in R2 2010 (STK vs Kang) and that game was Brad Scott's 2nd game as coach.

This is also somewhat serendipitous as, 21 years ago, in the corresponding game, Richmond sent Fitzroy off in their 2nd last game in a 151 point destruction.

Fitzroy's opponent in their last game, Fremantle.

Fremantle's last opponent at Subiaco, Richmond.
Fremantle's first opponent in 1995, Richmond.
West Coast's first victim in R1 1987, Richmond.
Freo's last opponent at the WACA Ground, Richmond.

Richmond also registered the first goals and behinds tally of 25 goals and 5 behinds which meant their goals were 5 times more important than their behinds.

First time in Freo's history they lost consecutive games by 100+ points.
First time in Freo's history they lost consecutive games by the same margin over 100 points.

From Twitter and in particular stats nut Swampy:

Biggest losses by same margin in consecutive games
-104 FREM 2017.
-101 BRIS 1991.
-92 SYD 1993.
-86 HAW 2017.

First time in Ross Lyon's coaching history he's lost 3 games in a season by 100+ points.

Prior to 2017, Ross Lyon had never coached a 100+ loss.

The scoreline of 155-51 was the 2nd time that happened (South Melbourne vs Geelong in 1976 the other time.)

Fremantle's first game and score which was against Richmond in 1995: 90-85.
Richmond won that game BTW and it was at the 'G and not Subi.

Richmond's score of 155, which narrowly edged their score of 154 vs GWS in 2014, was their highest score since R22 2013 vs GWS (163-42 in that game.)

The last two premiership winning teams (Hawthorn 2015 and Western Bulldogs 2016) will both miss the finals this season. The last time this occurred was exactly 50 years ago when the 1965 premiers Essendon and the 1966 premiers St Kilda both missed the finals in 1967.

Just following up on this query of falls from grace as premiers given the number of clubs in league was less before when 16 clubs, 14 clubs, 12 clubs, 10 clubs and 8 clubs throughout different periods I see that afltables links shows Hawks premiers in 1961 to 9th in a 12 club league is probably worse than Bulldogs fall this year in relative terms. Only won 5 games that year.

Dons 1994 of 10th after premiers in 15 club league is up there for falls too, with same amount of wins as Dogs this year.

Essendon premiers in 1912 to 8th in 10 club league might compare with Hawks 1962 fall.
