Can anybody confirm that the two NAB Cup challenge matches scheduled for 2014 are going to be part of the AFL history/statistics relating to night series/pre-season games?

The Swans have drafted Aliir Aliir and I wish him the best of luck.

I was wondering have there ever been any other players with the same first name and last name?

The closest I can come up with is the 1980s North Melbourne player (and caretaker Hawthorn coach) Donald McDonald, and the 1920s Richmond player Donald Don.

South Melbourne's William Williams and Geelong's Gerard Fitzgerald are 2 more similarly.

Saad Saad had a good enough highlight reel:

I have recently e-mailed Michael Lovett from the AFL in relation to my NAB Cup question. His response stated, "NAB Challenge games have been classified as practice matches and won't count as official pre-season/night games.”

Also, I think my original question should have read, "Can anybody confirm that the two NAB Cup challenge matches per team scheduled for 2014 are going to be part of the official AFL history relating to night series/pre-season games?"

Obviously there is going to be more than two games over the entire pre-season.

Has somebody ever won the Brownlow and Norm Smith in the same year?

No. Three guys came close though (if you take "close" to mean that they won the two medals only a year apart)

Williams (Brownlow 1994, Norm Smith 1995)
Black (Brownlow 2002, Norm Smith 2003)
Judd (Brownlow 2004, Norm Smith 2005)

Since the Norm Smith's only been around since 1979, we're dealing with a relatively small selection.

In the WAFL, however, the Sandover/Simpson Medal double has been performed five times since 1945 (when the Simpson Medal was first awarded for BOG in the GF):

1946: John Loughridge (WP)
1968: Barry Cable (P)
2001: Ryan Turnbull (EP)
2005: Toby McGrath (SF)
2010: Andrew Krakouer (SD)

Buckley came close as well in 2002/2003.
Cousins won the Brownlow in 05 and was one of West Coast's best in the GF

A bit of a toughie, but what are the top 10 highest scoring streaks(winning margins), finals included, no pre-season games.

Geelong had 751 in 2007, if that helps.
And bonus ponts :D

Average winning, and losing margins since 2000 for teams.

I appear to have misunderstood this question rather badly, and took it to be 'what is the highest combined winning margin for ten consecutive matches (counting losses as negatives)', and got:

Has there ever been a team enter the competition and made the top 4 first year? Or maybe even the granny?

Each club's first season in the finals and first season in a Grand Final since the foundation of the League

first_zps54eba2f6.png
* Essendon were premiers and Geelong runners-up in the inaugural season of 1897 but the premiership was decided by a 'round robin' series where the top 4 teams all played each other once with the premiership going to the best performing team - no 'grand final' was necessary.
** Only 4 teams competed in 1916 with other 5 withdrawing as they felt it not proper to continue the competition due to the war. As a result all played in the finals. Richmond next made the finals in the 9 team competition of 1919.
None of the the teams admitted to the competition after 1986 have made the top four nor the Grand Final in their first season.
Finals: Top 4 - 1897, 1901-1971
Top 5 - 1972-1990
Top 6 - 1991-3
Top 8 - 1994-2013

Cousins won the Brownlow in 05 and was one of West Coast's best in the GF

Judd was far and away our best player on GF and there were a number of Swans better than Cousins as well.
I actually think Kerr in 2006 was almost as close as Cousins to getting the two (even though he got neither).
If he wasn't BOG in the GF he was top 3 and only needed votes to go his way in two or so games to draw with Goodes.
