Re: Post your stats questions here

 at dean wallis only playing 127 games.

most of his career was before i started really taking an interest in footy (1996). would've sworn he was a 250 gamer if someone asked me the question over a couple of pints.

looking at his career sheet on AFL tables - he must have had heaps of injuries in the early 90's.

Apart from his fair share of injuries, Wallis also played 80 games in the reserves between 1987 and 1998.

Stats on Collingwood players in last quarter this year? i.e. To see who is running out the games best for Collingwood

Re: Post your stats questions here

List of most Brownlow votes in first 100 games? Or first 100 home and away games (ie. not finals)?

Selwood plays his 100th in two weeks.

This is problematic prior to 1984 as match-by-match votes weren't recorded. I've compiled two lists - one where players' votes were known at their 100th game in which votes were cast, and another with votes at the start and end of the season in which they played their 100th match.

Exact votes known (figures in brackets for players who played less than 100 voting matches):

Code:
79 Moss, Graham (82) (half votes awarded for 1976)
77 Platten, John
75 Judd, Chris
72 Matera, Peter
65 Shea, Keith (83)
63 Deacon, Bert (81)
60 Rehn, Shaun
60 Williams, Greg
58 Jarman, Darren
58*Selwood, Joel (82 to start of 2011)
56 Bartel, Jimmy
54 Dunstall, Jason
52 McGuinness, Tony
51 Bairstow, Mark
51 Black, Simon
51 Farmer, Graham (88)
50 Buckley, Nathan
50 Marshall, Denis (73)
50 Wynd, Scott

Exact votes unknown (career votes at end of season, voting matches at start of season, career votes at start of season, voting matches for season, votes for season):

Code:

Re: Post your stats questions here

Hi, I'm keen to see a ladder which shows where teams are positioned over a set period of time.

Eg Ladder which shows win/loss records over last 2 years, 5 years, 10 years including up to current round

Thanks

I'm not aware of anyone keeping progressive ladders of the last 2,5 or 10 years.

Here are the results from 2001, 2006, 2009 to round 5 2011

After that you are on your own in keeping them up to date.

Every seasons ladders are here

Re: Post your stats questions here

Is there a site that shows player disposal efficiency per game?

The HS has it for each game, e.g.

Click 'View Full Stats' at the bottom of the list.

Pro-Stats has percentages for the season, as well as for each game - select 'Team Ratios/Percentages' and '% Eff Disposals'. Note that these are independently collated and differ slightly from the official AFL stats from Champion Data.

Re: Post your stats questions here

I wish they'd separate kicking efficiency from disposal efficiency on the AFL website/Herald Sun etc.. The overall number is fine but it can be skewed by somebody doing dinky little handballs but kicking like Heather Mills-McCartney.

Though I guess it's the same with kicks where somebody switches play under no pressure.

Re: Post your stats questions here

With Geelong having won the five successive games over the Hawks after losing the 2008 Grand Final, what would be the biggest winning streak of reversed results after a Premiership win? Have there been other defeated Grand Finallists who have subsequently gone on to establish a big streak the other way?

Essendon defeated the saints in the 1965 Grand Final. The saints then won the next 5 games against the bombers. That streak was followed by a draw and another saints win. The bombers finally broke the drought in 1969.

Melbourne defeated Collingwood in the 1926 grand final. However, it would take Melbourne 20 attempts and over 10 years to again inflict defeat on Collingwood, that run going 2L D 13L D 2L.

Wow, thanks for that! Also noticed that the Pies won the preceding 10 games as well up to the 1926 finals, thus the Demons picked the most opportune time to inflict the only two losses the Pies would suffer from the Red and the Blue for almost a 15 year period!

Don't think the Hawks are in any danger of that record being surpassed.

Gold Coast conceded 197 points today and lost by 139 points, yet they won a quarter.

What are the top 10 scores conceded and top 10 losing margins where a team still managed to win a quarter?

Re: Post your stats questions here

In a similar vein though possibly more difficult. GCS had a win in 4Q against Port of 25 points (for the quarter). In their next quarter (1Q v ESS) they lost by 93. Is this the biggest quarter to quarter turn around ever? If you have this answer, what is the biggest turn around the other way (-ve quarter first)?

Cheers

EDIT: Reading thru the 5 stats thread I found the second answer

This was a great one from the main board:

What about across games?

What about across games?

Gold Coast winning the 4th quarter v Port Adelaide round 5 2011 by 31 points and then losing the 1st quarter v Essendon round 6 2011 by 93 points gives the greatest turnaround from one quarter to the next - 124 pts.

Next across matches is 108 pts. R12 1919 Sydney/SM won the last quarter v St Kilda by 106 pts. and lost R13 1919 1st quarter v Essendon by 2 points.

In round 11 1978 Richmond won the last quarter by 56 points v WB/Footscray. In round 12 they lost the 1st quarter v Carlton by 45 points - a turnaround of 101 points.

Within a match Gold Coast's turnaround of 107 points from quarters 1 and 2 (93 points loss to 14 point win) equals Richmond v Melbourne in round 2 1942. Richmond lost the 3rd quarter by 40 points but won the last by 67 points.

(Richmond's final score in that match was 30.16-198)
