Hawthorn were last after R1 1991, but there were a few teams with byes. Although they would have been a reasonable chance to be last anyway, getting drubbed by 86 points.

By my reckoning Leigh Matthews played 301 goal-scoring games. Who else is up there - Kevin Bartlett might have him covered?

Melbourne would have been bottom after Rd 1 in 1991. Lost to the Eagles 99-20, giving them a worse percentage than the Hawks.

Made a thread because I have a number of questions, but feel free to merge if need be:
1. When was the last time a team coming 2nd on the ladder lost by 100+?
2. When was the last time Sydney beat such highly ranked opposition by 100+?
3. When was the last time Geelong lost by 100+?
4. (Linked to 3 I suppose) what was the previous worst defeat suffered by a member of last night's Cats team?
5. When was the last time the Cats were held goalless at HT? (I know this didn't happen last night because I jinxed it by asking this Q right before they kicked their goal)

My only saving grace from 1991 is that we were top of the ladder after each round in the H&A season, before your boys decided to ruin our party.

1. Round 10 1998 Sydney (2nd) lost to St Kilda (5th) by 101 points.
2. Sydney/Sth Melbourne (3rd) defeated Geelong (2nd) by 109 points in round 18 1933.
3/4. Round 8 2006 by 102 pts. vs Collingwood. (Bartel and Kelly played in that match.)
5. round 12 1977 - 0.4-4 vs Carlton.

Carlton were last after a full round of matches in round 1 1907 with a percentage of 53.57% and Fitzroy were last four times in 1916 (but last was a finals position).
Carlton in 1945 are the only premier to be in a finals position on the ladder only after the last round of matches.
