Which team has lost the most finals matches to interstate teams?

Off the top of my head, I reckon it would be between Geelong and Collingwood, but I'm wanting stats to back this up.

What stands out more than anything else there is how unusually high scoring finals were in 2000.

Not even close. Lowest crowd of the four finals in 1970 was 104,239 at the 1st Semi Final between St Kilda and South Melbourne!

Didn't realise so many finals were played at the G back then.

I just saw that 3x 90k didn't occur in either 1977 or 2010 despite the double GFs.

Four finals losses in a row equals the Hawks' record. They lost (their only) finals in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1996.

2000 - Docklands Stadium opened
1987 - West Coast and Brisbane entered the VFL
1982 - The Swans move to the SCG
1970 - Waverley Park opened

Most finals are played at the MCG, and years ago, all finals were played at the MCG, except for a few exceptions in some years.

This shows finals losses against Sydney, not South Melbourne! Fitzroy played just one finals game against a non-Victorian team.
