To some degree. Swann got the trade done talking young Kennedy into going to Eagles despite the kid not wanting to go at the time. Not a strategy but heavy hitter just getting a deal done....
Over a dozen years on, you expect to be more professional and have experts for this area, rather than people making it up as they go along that not their role.

2015 We finally appoint a GM of List Management and Strategy. A title that made me excited to finally think the club has really woken up to modern times of draft and salary cap era.
Fast forward 2019 and the Ellis saga..... FARKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!
Liddle inviting Ellis to tour the club behind sos’s back is unforgivable. Very unprofessional. I’m shocked that liddle would do something like that as I really had the impression he was very very professional in the way he went about it. I was very impressed by what he has been able to deliver in the short time he has been at the club.

Exactly how I felt. He had not really done anything to raise my eyebrows until I realised there was stuff around our apparent interest in Ellis that did not add up to me around trade weeks. I can only hope Liddle has fully owned his mistake and won't make such mistakes again ( I can forgive if he regrets it in house) but my confidence in him is not the same. But I am finally thankful the club has made an official comment on SOS leaving his role even if it leaves out the tension created over Ellis saga. It is better than nothing that had for a good 3 days of stupid media crap but nothing from our own club. PR staff have written it to be based on SOS removing himself from anything to do with his own sons contracts. Most will buy the whole thing which I can understand if plenty do.

The Club can confirm that Stephen Silvagni has departed from his role as General Manager of List Management and Strategy.
He has been out best recruiter for decades, a loss for the club and I wish him the best. Personally he has done a very good job with our playing list, the signs started to emerge last season.

The statement is symbolic of where the club is at.

What makes people upset is that on field we are on the cusp of something special yet off field - or coach, footy manager, CEO, president, board members can’t get past their own egos.

Thought we might be beyond the Carlton of old but we are setting a new bar of division right now.

Bambi has been shot by the current administration, making it easier for a Presidential change.

I shouldn't really say that I'd be surprised....but I would be surprised should MLG now continue.
He should go and maybe even has to go. It just makes sense.

The members, the power-brokers and everyone in between won't be appeased to see only SOS's head having been lopped off.
Liddle and co can't go, but a presidential change would breathe some new life into this rotting corpse.

I agree that a presidential change is nigh. MLG has orchestrated what this club has never done.

We need a super strong candidate who can reign in Liddle, it's not just about fresh blood. The candidate must be elite.

The Butler misalignment between Agresta and SOS now makes a bit more sense.

As does the back and forth regarding Ellis - the perception from his manager that we were hot and cold on him.

We clearly had a list manager who wasn't aligned with the other recruiters and football managers/coach. Have to question why Liddle got involved on Ellis without telling SOS? Was he acting for Lloyd/Bolton/Teague, or did he go rogue?

The handling of this still points to mismanagement by MLG, and he should vacate his post in the near future.

i am shocked that MLG didn't intervene. It was an easy decision - SOS or Liddle. Whether or not Liddle can be sacked contractually he could have still been moved aside such that he was not in a position to challenge SOS. Back to gym memberships or secretarial pool is fine by me.

I haven't followed the whole saga so this might not be entirely correct. However, my understanding is that MLG recruited SOS from a safe job at GWS to save Carlton. SOS reported directly to the board through MLG specifically so that their agreed 5-year plan could not be interfered with by others.

Liddle corrupted that agreement and sought to restructure the power structures so that SOS had to report to him. SOS refused to accept this accountability to Liddle and thereby was forced to resign.

Surely in these circumstances it was incumbent on MLG to stand up and reinforce the original agreement. SOS is entitled to be pissed off at being lured from a long term GWS job to be screwed over by his mate and a wannabe exec.

Shame that an internal succession plan wasn’t in place. Internal person should have been learning from the best.

For someone that was leaving anyway in the nearish future it’s actually an indictment because as head of anything you should have a succession plan, seamless transition is the name of the game in any good business.
