Unless you have a quote of yourself claiming he'll be the next best since Bradman, I wouldn't go digging up old posts from others.

I'm happy to say that after his first few tests I didn't think Smith would make it and was very surprised to see him picked for the last Indian series. He's now one of my favourite cricketers of all time and is up there with one of the best I've seen from any country. That includes Tendulkar.
And to be fair, as a leg spinner, he's proven to be a dud ;)

i think smith grew even more into a world class test cricketer in this innings.
i was thinking maxwell was strictly a one day and 20/20 player. but he looked
at home making his maiden test ton.
india looked rattled and i hope the aussies take them to the cleaners.

It's a shame we don't have the benefit of your opinion from four years ago.....

I'm sure I wasn't Robinson Crusoe in massively underestimating what Smith has become.

I was right to say that he was the better player at least

If Maxwell can continue to show the application he showed in the first innings then he can make that spot his own, I'll reserve judgement though.

Calm down champ I just found it amusing that someone you had written off as a test player is now captaining Aus.

an interesting thread to read with the benefit of 4 years
Always pushed the Steve Smith barrow ,next best thing, but I was on the bowling barrow,Maxwell will never be a test player as long my arse points to the ground....I think my invitation to be a selector has been withdrawn

Don't mind either of them that much.

Think Glenn has more to offer short term. I have a feeling Smith could be a special player though once he matures.

I'd agree with O'Keefe, but I do believe Steve Smith is a huge talent, and has a genuine future as a Test Batsman.

They threw him to the wolves when he was younger, granted, he dominated Domestic Cricket to earn it, but they threw him in the team with no clear role, the public had no idea whether he was a bowler or a batsmen - it was just poorly handled and messy.

If he's got half of the strength of character as Phil Hughes, he'll be back, and he'll be a gun.

;)

Thread reminds me of this
