why would they? the fact its a 2 team AFL town doesn't mean it will be 50/50 - what makes you think it would? If the fan base was 50/50 you would see a more 50/50 coverage. The media is a business, its not there to tell you the news, its there to make money. Who do they market to? the one that makes them money. What is the difference in circulation sales of a Tiser with McLeod on the front compared to Tredrea? In fact what are the circulation sales of a 10 year retired Tony Modra compared to a Tredrea?

There is a saying in LA, "thank god I'm not a Clippers fan". Man Utd/Man City, West Coast/Freo, NY Giants/NY Jets there is always one club getting more attention than the other. The media in Melbourne is no different, certain clubs sell more papers and rate more than others. How often is Port discussed on Before The Game, After the Game, On the Couch, The Footy Show, One week at a time, Footy Classified, Sunday Footy Show etc and so on. Its the exact same argument. We don't rate there, so the media rarely talks or writes about either of us.

Yet despite this the crows still have a persecution complex about rucci. I think the main difference is that the pro port commentators like aber, ditts, francou are intellegent, balanced, literate, professionals who are mindful of not putting the cows fans offside, whilst kg, rowe and cornes/ mcdermott (to a lesser extent) are barely literate, sensationalist imbeciles who score brownie points with the pro crows crowd for slagging us off continually.

(ps I have bruce abernathy's crows club jacket, bought at his garage sale, remember he played for them once)

The only thing funnier than rowies attempts to take over from kg was his attempts to forge a career in the afl. Best of ignoring him and he will go away.

I like the way mcdermott has been outed from the cows for some his quite well reasoned criticisms of his old club and how ried got all upset at the 'searching questions' from the media when he retired the other day. This hyper sensitivity of criticism is a sign of a lack of maturity, but nothing more than we can expect from a new club.

He has worked for the Tiser since 1989, not hard to be the Chief Football writer after two decades with the only paper in town. Not a lot of competition. Frightening really given the shocking inaccuracies in a lot of the articles.

You have some points with the other ones (but it's no worse than what Rowe or Graham Cornes have done) but you do realize that if Thompson grew a pair and actually followed through with the bet, there would've been no reason for that counter, right? He deserves everything he gets for being a welcher.

What Rowe said on the radio about Burgoyne leaving was disgraceful, to his defense he was atagonised by Port supporters trying to dish out barbs at the crows whereas Rucci made a conscious decision to continually use the roast for a number of week to basically laugh at the crows about Welsh and Hudson leaving.

So Rowe should be forgiven because he's "passionate"? No, passionate isn't right, Rowe should be forgiven because he's to ****ing stupid to know what the right and wrong thing to say is . He's good for a laugh - that's about it.

Granted Rucci does antagonise crows supporters, I don't think many here would disagree with that. I wonder if he would dig the heels in so much if 5aa and his peers at the tiser weren't so crow-centric.

It's hard to judge whether Rucci is reactive or proactive - his latest stint is clearly reactive, but overall, i think it's a bit of both. At the end of the day both clubs have to deal with tripe from the media. I'm just grateful that we at least do have one person on the PAFC side that gives it back with a bit of interest.

The shit moves in both directions, i try to ignore it as best i can, it'll be great if we could sack the entire SA media, but it won't happen. So i just don't listen to 5aa and i only read select articles from the tiser.

They're dills, but having said that heaven forbid we hold the print media to a higher standard than the ******** brigade known as talk back radio (of which KG, Cornes and Rowe are part of) which is barely more than a 3 hour version of Sam's Street Talk.

I've heard plenty of people (including this board) who wouldn't consider Francou that intelligent or balanced, he's just too busy slagging off Port to aim at the Crows that much.

Of course this is away to shut them up, same way we shut Sam Newman up.

You did well not to mention Rucci in there, bias much? He's the one who started the war, Rowey was only defending himself, his career. Columns in the paper shouldn't be used as personal slurring rings, thats borderline msn and high school stoushes.

im not sure how rucci's articles compare to the ones in the age and HS because i dont read them, but i presume they r written by the likes of Sheehan, robo, ralf, wilson, watson how come across to me as not that impressive, so i cant imagen they would be better at all.
