Stevens second half

Checked to see if there was a thread on his effort yesterday but couldn't find one. Thought his attitude in the second half was fantastic. Have been citical at times about his defensive game but felt that his desperation and passion was enormous.

I believe that in the past Nick has had a tendancy to not be 100% mind focassed on the contest. That he wasted energy on worrying about taggers, umpires ect. Yesterday he showed just how dynamic he can be when he is totally committed to the contest. He has also shown aspects of this at other times but imo not to the level he did yesterday.

For what it is worth I think Fev needs to stop worrying about free kicks and bad passes and take a leaf out of the Stevens performance yesterday. If Nick, Fev, Jarred and a few others could consistently be 100% on the contest the side would have the potential to worry many of the sides above us on the ladder.

Some posters have written on here that they thought Murph had a poor game. I thought he did a power of work in the 1st half before being rested up in the 3rd.

I wonder if what Stevo said was about trying to allow Murph the space to do his stuff early while he took a good defensive player away from the stoppages

Interesting. The game is replayed on Pay on Tuesday 1.30. Will try and watch as I felt Stevo was just not on at the start of the game. Remember a couple of tackles slipping through right at the start that could have been harder.

Perhaps the instructions for the first half affected his desire as in the second half he was as ferocious and switched on as I have ever seen him.

The smother also just prior to it was great also, I think the look away was directed at another team mate but got through to Fisher or might have been deflected that way but certainly the thought and intention was there, Great Stuff

Best game in the Navy Blue jumper. His second half was inspiring to watch and he always wanted to skipper this side and he certainly proved he would have been worthy.

Yeah his disposal has never been questioned it is always whether he is tackling, chasing, shepherding,smothering or just being desperate enough i thought he showed all of those qualities on the weekend,he really got in after the ball at times just to lock it up or stop Richmond from gaining possession which was great to see. These are the things that need to remain in his game all the time if he wants to be considered for Captaincy etc and to show leadership to the young blokes, by god we will have a sensational midfield if they can all compliment their skills with desperation, workrate and 1 %ers etc.

Just hope it can happen with the blokes who are very desperate and hard working now, that is compliment their games with skill and poise.

Have to agree, he seems to cop lots of unnecessary bagging from our own supporters, but he showed that someone who has that bit of class can have such an impact on a game especially in the second half. We have to remember that he missed a whole year of footy, so the best may be yet to come in the second half of this year....
