I struggle to comprehend just how inconsistent Dogga is sometimes. He'll play a really solid, excellent game one week, then the next weekend he'll have a very disappointing outing and struggle badly. Maybe a lack of consistent gametime, or something else, but it's incredibly frustrating. He always does enough just to keep his spot....

I'm one of the few that would like to see Stiffy come back in. Regardless of his driving escapades and seeming lack of fitness, he is QUALITY. You don't have that running around in the ressies; he'll lift for the big game and will be a solid contributor. Just my opinion.

Its interesting how people are prepared to drop players after one bad game. Glad you are not part of th ematch committee. If anyone gets dropped it will be Van Berlo. He is the one most at risk. He got his tase of AFL footy and will be better for it.

For all his flaws Doughty is as of now a better player than Van Berlo. More experienced, just as versatile and NC has more faith in him than a lot of supporters.

Personally, I wouldn't bring Johncock in until the showdown but if he is to come in then Van Berlo is the one that will miss out (if no one is injured)
I'd hardly consider Doughty to have had one bad game, at my count, he's had four good games for the season. And those 4 good games would only be a reasonable game for someone else in the team.
Bring back Johncock, leave VB in longer, drop Doughty.

Exactly. He was in our top 6 players before he got injured. His aggression and pace will be crucial come finals time. He could be our finals X factor.

Post of the thread. Well done. Ohh it's mine - woops. :o :D

Last time I looked I was not a member of the AFC match committee and ‘Big Footy’ was simply an option based discussion forum on our thoughts about the football.

Iam not a fan of M Doughty and can honestly say that the sooner he is dropped the better, hopefully that day is sooner rather than latter. I will happily eat a slice of humble pie if he comes on like Mattner, Bock, Hentschel, but I very much doubt it.

Putting aside the fact that I would replace Doughty on our HBF with a Vegemite sandwich and a stale packet of crisps........I think objectively - even though he has had some improved games this year...Young Mick would have to be almost first cab off the rank out of the established players to make way for His Hardness.

Sure - NC could take the easy way out and drop The Count - but is that moving fwd...????..and is that sending a message to the Doughty's, Reilly, Shirley's etc that they need to perform to retain their spot ????

No and No...

I know I'll be howled down but even if Doughty made no mistakes.....of our midsize flankers....he is probably the one least likely to have an attacking string to his bow......and therefore would probably pay the price of having a full and fit squad.

Having said all that -

1) as kbcrowgirl has already said.........Stiffy should only come back in IF he is cherry ripe.

and..

2) Mick Doughty will continue to get a game while NC is coach.

He is one of our best when fit.
Two weeks will be enough, even if he starts off the bench or hides in a pocket.
Cant say who will miss out - VB or Doughty I guess. Torney would be pretty stiff to be dropped after 1 bad game.
Threats of this kind do society no good at all....

You're right though...WHEN FIT...Stiff is one of our best.....but......*taps avatar*

I would be amazed if he played this week or next - Port had the bye his form preceeding was average, he has poor aerobic capacity at the best of times and we're playing a critical and tight game.

Not one indicator to say he should play - and he won't!!

Exactly. A decent physical hit out in the SANFL would be ideal. Match fitness is not something that can be developed on the track.

As soon as Stiffy is right in the head (regards to his leg) & his fitness level is above 75% then bring him straight back in.

Not too many games left to condition him for AFL standard of footy in preparation for the finals.

Unlucky for the Count but he will have many more opportunities in the future.

Never been a fan of Doughty but he does not deserved to be dropped for last weeks game & for that matter neither does Reilly or Torney.

Given Stiffy dropped lots of fitness whilst injured, I'm convinced bringing him back to face the hard-running Swans outfit would be wise. IMO he would struggle to keep up with the likes of Schneider & Buchanon. I would probably give it another week, which hopefully will make it easier to decide out of JT, VB & Dogga, as to who make way. The only consideration would be to play him in bursts up forward.

:o It was a good idea based on sound logic

What an excellent return to the team. Looked cool , calm and collected tonight, like he'd not been out for 8 weeks, bloody impressive !

Players usually have a big one in their first game back after missing a big chunk of games through injuries. Its the 2nd and 3rd games that they have shockers.

True, so fingers crossed for next week then. But remember, Stiffy isnt a normal player :)

He sure isn't :D

Did anyone see a little incident with Stiffy where he was lining up a Swans player but accidentally nearly knocked Thommo out?????? He must have had a yippi beam before he went out :D

Stiffy suprised me. I wasn't convinced he was ready, he certainly showed us he was though! He was tremendous. I will be interested to see how the leg pulls up though, that will be the real test.
