That will mean Strachan goes onto our senior list - maybe for 2022, definitely for 2023. He's already done 3 years on the rookie list. That used to be the maximum, but the AFL has increased it to 4 years for 2022.

Strachan is an unexpected signing. Considering his age, I thought he would try to leverage his late-season form into a best 22 spot somewhere. Gollant, on the other hand, is a very good signing, as much as this was a mere formality. Going for the less-security route is interesting, must be feeling pretty confident he'll be a best 22 player by the end of next year.

Just need to get Parnell signed up for 2022- now.

Good news.

Hopefully they go into the pre-season considering the #1 ruck spot an open competition.

Past deeds should count for nothing.

It's time we started rewarding form.

Not with O'Brien signed to 2025 they won't

Pretty much this.

We've already made our bed with our 1st choice ruck position. It's O'Brien's and only injury/a severe drop in form is going to change it up.

Disnt Parnell join us on a 18 month contract?

I like this as Gollant gets an extra year to push for a regular spot in the side and if he can, then no doubt a longer contract at the end of next year. Id does leave it open though to him being poached if he does come on well next year.

Strachan is a good call - we are on a knife edge if O'Brien goes down injured AND if STrachan keeps up the form he showed, should genuinely put real pressure on ROB for that no 1 spot. Seems like good list management to me

He might have, though I don't think we announced it? Especially with Parnell mentioning he wanted to work hard so he can stay here in 2022 in his introduction video from the club.

Was wondering why Gollant only signed for 1 . You think it was at his request or the club’s request?

Two-year extension for Strachan

One-year for Gollant
Great news. Only one for Gollant. Somewhat concerning but hopefully he's doing it to get a better deal from us in 9 months. I wouldn't be surprised if we traded ROB in 12 months time. This would give Strachan a year to develop.

Interesting with Strachan. Two years for a player who, it seems, will only get games when O'Brien is injured. Either that, or will force out a player we have on contract for several more years.

I wonder what we're paying him? It's useful to have an AFL caliber backup incase Sauce goes down but if he doesn't it's money spent for no real benefit. Perhaps by agreeing to two years, Strachan was willing to accept less per year?

Would’ve thought Gollant would get two years

Either way, great news on both fronts. Was sure that Strachan could have rival clubs chasing him this year, good to have a backup like him around

Nope, he said so in one of his interviews words to the effect he was hoping to show enough to get another contract.

Right at the end...

I think it would be Gollant requesting one year.
As a still relative unknown, he was probably getting offered minimum chips, after only 10 games for the club and 2 afl games.
I think he is backing himself in to have a big year next year and he gets to look at better offers this time next year

Good on both parties behalf ....the club needs to see Gollant add more weight, his future is limited at his current weight .....Gollant has the opportunity for a bigger Contract if he has a good 2022, which is conditional on building more strength

Win / Win

Its a big gamble from a one game player if that’s the case, if he has an injury interrupted year he might have got himself into trouble.
