Stratton: Dislocated Knee

Without knowing the full extent of all of the damage, I ruptured the PCL and stretched the lateral ligament in 2005 as a 35 year old playing major league country footy and got back in 12 weeks to play finals, with the rehab techniques avaliable I would expect he would return before seasons end, it will depend upon how cautious/conservative the club wants to be as he is a young man with a bright future and I imagine they will not want to risk him. IMHO it is definately possiable with this injury to return. Good luck Stratts !!

stratts has made an impact in his short time with the club and best of luck to the young man on the surgery and then the road to recovery.

hopefully, he is ready to slot back into the team come the business end of the season

had a chat to my friendly physio today (not that one grizz), who think that 12 weeks could even be optimistic.

This early on into identification and treatment, the range of recovery was 6-12 weeks for recovery. (Surgery pushes it towards the upper end of that scale). From that point, there's another 3-6 weeks of rehabilitation (regaining strength and stability around the joint) and then finally however long it takes to regain match fitness - up to 4 matches.

All up that gives a spread of 9-22 weeks out. I think we are being optimistic if we expect Stratton to return. We need to setup our premiership tilt without him, knowing that if he proves his fitness, he will be able to fit into that setup (whatever it may be) somehow.

I'm saying nothing, Simon_Underscore.

My understanding is that it would be around the 12-16 weeks mark if all went well and if there was nothing else major going on. I don't think the surgery would hold him back too much. In any case he would most likely be in a brace for 4-6 weeks with the rehab starting after that.

That sucks for Stratss..hopefully he recovers soon and comes back bigger and stronger.

On a positive note this will give someone like a Litherland/Schoenmaker to take up that spot and make it their own. When we have Stratton return, we would have developed another player for that spot and it will make our backline stronger.

Amen. Shattered for BS24 but as Faraway said it creates opportunity for someone else to prove themselves. Hope a Schoe/ Litherland or even a Lisle grab the chance with both hands and create some real competition for spots in the back six.
Big loss though - hope the recovery goes well Stratts.....

Hale dosen't know what his talking about. It's not just a PCL injury, it's a ruptured PCL. 4 weeks? LOL. - minimum 3 months best case scenario.

Exactly. That new report was a bit of a fluff piece where Hale gave the bog-standard feel-good stock replies. Read nothing into it.

We'll just have to wait for the post-surgery diagnosis for any real information and hope it goes well for Ben after that.

Unless Hawthorn medical staff is deciding upon some experimental treatment which has been discovered in the last couple of months, he won't be back for at least 3 months. Be closer to 4-6 realistically.

N.B. Even when he gets back to training, he will lose particularly a fair bit of agility and turn of speed. This why we won't know for sure how long after at least a couple of months, on how is truly progressing.

The worst thing the club could do would be to rush him back. Personally I don't care if he doesn't play again this year if it means he comes back 100% ready next year. He is a young man with a lot of footy in front of him.
Ben's misfortune will provide an opportunity for others like Schoey, Lisle, Cheney and Litherland to perhaps gain experience in the big time.
