Both are guns and I believe we are a 2-3 goal better side with them both in team. Where are they at and do you believe they can break back into the side this year?

I don't know about guns but they certainly have something to offer.
I think they are both competing with Nicoski for a spot and until he falters/gets injured/needs a rest, I doubt we will be seeing much of either of them in the seniors.
When Ebert and Lecras are playing a high HFF role, they are also competing with them.

In terms of Nicoski and Ebert, I think Strijk and Hams offer more offensively, skills and goals wise than either, and the question would be whether they offer enough defensively to fit in the forward press. I would suspect the answer to that is an emphatic yes, as both players are strong and relentless in tackling and pressure, but the coaches are probably unwilling to mess with the dynamic of a press that has been so successful.

Darling, Lynch, Hams
Lecras, Kennedy, Strijk
...would be an incredibly dangerous forward line, whilst still maintaining defensive pressure.

That said, Nicoski and at times, Ebert, have been doing good jobs in their roles and i'm happy for Strijk and Hams to build up their form until they are necessary inclusions

Hams was insanely good against Geelong in Rd 22 last year. Freo seem to be plucking gun mature age recruits out of their purple asses much to the angst of the rest of the competition. I think Hams could be a star for us given the chance... Would take Hams over Nicoski and Ebert every day of the week.

I like Strijk and Hams but I think even Coby Stevens has gone past them in the pecking order.

The team has been going great with the current forward set up so it is hard for these players to break into the side.

They are no orphans though as most of the fringe players are actually in good form at WAFL level (A far cry from this time last year when if you were fit and in resonable form you were in the 22)

I am a fan of both, but I think it is a great sign that players like Strijk, Hams and Stevens are finding it hard to break into the team. On form you would have to say that Stevens is the hardest done by so far, but he will get his chance.
The teams form is vastly superior to last season obviously, and we have nearly a full list to pick from. I don't think you can really fault Nicoski this season, and I am more than happy for him to be holding his spot. I think it's great to see.

Meh... on both.

If these two are kept out of the side for superior talent, I'm fine with that. Even if it means risking them walking at season's end.

Agree with SG above. Both have had a chance but didn't impress. Many are calling for Masten's head but when subbed he was a lot more impressive than Strijk, who needs to up his work rate, IMHO.

They'll get another chance, then they must make sure they grab it with both hands.

Have to be honest I have thought for a long time that Strijk is insanely over rated on this board. I like Hams and I'd bring him in if one of our forwards went down. The problem is Weedon may well overtake him by next year if he makes another jump in development like he did last pre season.

Strijk does look like a genuinely good footballer though, even at AFL level.

To come into our rabble last year and take clean over head marks and kick a decent drop punt may have made him seem better than he is but he still did it.

It would be criminal not to have Hams play more games this year. We've 10 games left. He might be lucky to play 5/10.

Most of us had him pencilled in as one of our 10 most important players.

In the same boat as Stevens, Swift, Stevenson, Wilson... players we expected to see more of this year but just haven't been able to get in and stay in the side, partly due to good form and partly due to a decent injury run.

Valuable to have on the list, I'm not sure how much Hammer offers us in the long run, but I do like him. Strijk should be playing more but Nicoski hasn't put a foot wrong, happy to see him continue at the Falcons though...

honestly, if our list was this fit last year its doubtful those 2 would have been given the opportunities they were as rookies.

also remember that they were playing in a very poor and inexperienced team last year.

yes both were good enough to warrant a game this year but may not have been in woosha's long term plans.

one or both of them will get a chance this year, its just up to them to take that chance.

in the meantime, lets just be happy everyone is performing well enough to keep them out!

on one hand its a good thing they cant force their way into a strong team.

on the other hand i would rather see young players coming thru and forcing embley/niko/a.selwood out of the side while we are having this resurgance.those 3 wont be around when we are ready to challenge for a premiership so would be better to have the younger fellas comin in.Having said that i wouldnt want them coming in without earning it like last yr

Both are good enough to play , but the team may go backwards when we bring them in but be better in the longer term with them in :o

Nicoski is holding them out with his very good form and his pace .
Heard it said that Nicoski acccepted base payment two years ago on his contract and was Clubman of the year last season plus helps the younger players . Nicoski has been good to the club and still quite young .

I'd prefer to still have a few of the experienced heads on the field during this transition period we've been going through. They will get their chance.

Hams is not a required player in my opinion. His height makes him very limited at AFL level. He can't play in defense because he would be isolated and exposed by taller opponents. Really the only position is the half forward flank and Nicoski is doing enough to keep his position there.

would really like to see strijk in the team, he's got fantastic attributes for the HF line.

the strong form of the team is keeping him out at this point in time, though he hasn't really amazing in the wafl of late...so it's not like he's banging the door down.

i think a forward line looking like:
Strijk - Kennedy - LeCras
Darling - Lynch - Nicoski

would be very dangerous, at HF you have lecca, jk and strijk who are all deadly kicks. they would be great at putting the ball inside 50 or taking shots at goal.
