Remember Darling is also a massive reason why one of them isn't in the side had no idea he would come into the side and not miss a game. Also I can see next year Lecras moving into the mid and rotate in the forward line at about 70/30, this would enable one of Hams or Strijk to come in, they would obviously have to work on their midfield work but Strijk seems the more capable one in the midfield. Then Hams will come in at the expense of Nicoski or Darling, Ebert will go to midfield more than Hams should. I can see Nicsoki being the one to be dropped, he hasn't done anything wrong so far this year but next year I imagine Hams will get his shot.

Stevens will also come in soon we just have to be patient and believe in our selection committee to make the right choice.

I pretty confident Hams and Strijk have futures. Strijk needs a few preseasons and to play a team role, superior option in the long run to the scatter gun in Nicoski.

agreed.
although nicoski's maturity and hunger atm is keeping him alive in the side.
if given the opportunities nicoski does in the forward line i think strijk would create more goals but nico's speed is too good atm.

That's your opinion I'm sure he'd be fine if given a proper chance in this Eagles side.
where would they play given neither are midfielders? strijk not being able to run out games is a fact, not opinion. he has been given a chance and didnt do anything. his wafl form has been good but not good enough to keep giving him a chance ahead of others. i have no problems with that as i cant think of a single position he can bed down and call his own.

i am quietly confident that collectively hams and strijk will not play more than 10 afl games for eagles. i'd say career but they may be watned somewhere.

I must admit I'm baffled with all the Hams and Strijk love. Every weak they are must have ins. Based on what?

They are clearly not best 22-25.

Based on WAFL form . Hams is basically BOG every week he plays for SF and South Freo are in the top 4 . Hams was great against Geelong last year and looked AFL quality , if he doesn't get a game for West Coast is isnt because of lack of ability . Hams won B&F for WA in the U/18 when players like Buddy / Lecras / M Morton were playing so he can play .

Hams is a classy player. I think that was clear in the games he played last year, and in his efforts in the WAFL. Beautiful kick, good decisions, wins plenty of frees.

Not sure where he fits in the team structure, though. If he goes through the midfield, is he quick enough to make up for his lack of height? Is he tall enough for a HFF? Can he crumb?

Personally, I think there should be a spot for him in the team playing Nicoski's role. He's better at applying pressure and we would look 10x better going inside 50. But that's just about the only spot I can see for him, at least while 2 x Selwoods + McGinnity are a lock.

play him because he gets frees?

2nd bit: no, no and no. he isnt a midfielder nor small forward so where can he play? nicoski's pressure is pretty good, i wouldnt say hams is better. its pretty good though nonetheless. nicoski is a much bigger body. not to mention that he crumbs alot better - not bad for someone who is almost 190cm.

A free is the next best thing to a clean clearance from a stoppage. If you get a free I50 then you have a shot at goal. So yeah, I'd say that's a reason to play him, though clearly not a decisive one.

He averages ~1 goal per game in the WAFL this year, playing predominantly midfield. He had a ten tackle game not long ago. Nicoski is certainly playing his role well, but Hams would bring more to the team. Anyway, agree to disagree. :thumbsu:

Sure you jest ndot? Hams is quick, just looks slow/nippy with his midget legs!

Strijk is defiently in our best 22 IMO.

The likes of McGinnity should make way for him.

Hams could start in the forward pocket as our crumber (start Lecca on the ball) then mid-way through the third quarter, sub Hams off for a midfielder and rest Lecca in the pocket.

Serious question, why wasn't Hams drafted until the rookie draft?

Wouldn't be surprised if one or maybe both Of these guys are running around in a GWS jumper next year.

Maybe a trade similar to Lyle and schofield to port is on the cards..

I think both are good enough to play AFL, the great thing I noticed about them that they are both good marks, played on at every opportunity and are accurate kicks, they stood out last year because we turned it over all the time and hardly played on.

I think Strijk should be picked ahead of Ebert as he is as good a mark and a 10 times better kick. Mcginnity played one of his better games last week but given the opportunity he gets he should be improving. The main reason these guys are playing is the press and the defensive aspect of our game, Ebert and Mcghack are strong tacklers and even though their disposal is average to poor they are playing their role.

The issue I have with our squad is the lack of goal kickers in the side, have a look at the stats of our players and you will see most of them average less than 0.5 goals a game. Last week we had some different goal kickers but that is the exception to the rule. The great thing about players like Shuey, Strijk and Embley is they take the pressure off the key forwards (Lecca inc.) having to kick all the goals.

So Strijk would take McGinnitys role in the back line?

Strijk needs to improve his fitness before he is best 22. If he has a massive preseason I can see him as a regular in 2012.

Not at all.

I've play Butler and Hurn across Half-back, Strijk on a half-forward flank, and the midfielder we've been starting on the flank either on the ball or on the bench.

I don't get all the love for Hams. He's kicked some nice goals, he's gone missing for entire games, he's put some good pressure on... He hasn't been consistent in his AFL games. He's not young. He probably would be a better option than an Ebert but that's about all I think he could displace atm unless someone drops in form. Ebert is the future of the club though so games need to be pumped. Hams is a good WAFL player who will have a short AFL career.
