GEELONG youngster Jesse Stringer is adamant he can make the grade as an AFL player, despite having his first year at the club ruined by injury.
Rookie-listed at the end of 2009, the former Port Adelaide Magpies midfielder showed his immense talent when he was Geelong's best player in its practice match against Richmond at Yea in early 2010.
However, a debilitating hip complaint meant the 19-year-old spent the rest of the season in the club's rehabilitation group.

Gee that doesn't sound promising.

Hip injuries are pretty common actually, due to the loads through jumping and landing and the amount of change of direction the players do. But yeah, sounds like his was pretty bad.

He was good in Yea, so hopefully the 61st pick in the rookie draft can show something this year...wouldn't that be a good return.

Very true but for a young bloke of his height and weight surly not that common.

Sadly VERY common. I work with Eastern and see many U 18-U 16 players with hip impingement. They have a genetic tendency, a bump, and the nature of footy etc brings it to a head. Not sure of Stringer's diagnosis but most of these young guys return to footy in 2 months. Surgery with the proper surgeons is corrective. And in this case, his surgeon is one of the recognised hip scope specialists.
