I don't rate Will Hughes. Watched him several times over the years, reckon he's far more hyped than he should be.
He's too good for the championship, surely you can agree with that?

Not really. I think he's at exactly the right spot for where he's currently at.

That's not to say he won't get there but I wouldn't be starting him at a PL club next season.

With how rapidly players move around not sure why this is an issue. Take a year of payet (the year he just had) and if he's really going to drop off that much buy someone new this summer. I doubt he'll drop off much anyway. It's weird clubs think long term about things like this and then end up with a Depay.
It's all about resale value for a lot of clubs.

I suppose some clubs don't want to end up with a repeat of Tottenham's outcome with Soldado as well.

Someone that can push Kane isn't going to enjoy being benched for large portions of the season

We've got a striker who has two great seasons. This new signing will be lucky to start 10 games in the league if Kane stays fit. 25m on that isn't necessary
We'll wait and see who we get, I'll reserve my right to be upset if it's Long.

Seriously. I've seen more than 10+ games of his.

I think he turns the ball over a fair bit and he goes missing when the heat is on. Just my observation.

He was integral in getting them back into the Play-Off SF. If that's not having the heat on I don't know what is!!

When he went down at the start of the season they severely dropped off until they recruited a suitable replacement.

Realistically, I think they were always likely to make it. He may have helped but he wasn't the only one.

I'm not just talking this season though. I'm talking about games I've watched over the last 2-3 years (outside his injury obviously).

I'm clearly not a PL scout but I think the fact he's young an English has added to the hype. I wouldn't bother with him at the price they'd want.

Shane Long as long as he costs less than 15m would be a good backup

Not many better proven cameo PL performers around that suit our style.

I'd only be disappointed if we spent heaps on him. But saying that I'd rather spend 15m-20m on him than Berahino!

May have quoted the wrong post there ;)

He always looks capable of being PL quality. But way too early to be touted as a future england player. JWP is much closer and has a few seasons of PL under his belt and they're only 6 months apart

Sorry I mean into the match. The second leg come back was engineered by his work in midfield.

The fact he's young certainly helps, he'll only get better.

Oh right, sorry.

I definitely think you're right there. I just don't think he's as good as the hype. Not yet at least.

Brad Goodman: We can all learn a lot from this young man here, this... this...

Bart: Rudiger

Brad Goodman: Rudiger. And if we can all be more like little Rudiger

Marge Simpson: His name is Bart

Brad Goodman: His name isn't important!
I was waiting for this to be posted :D. It was literally the first thing I thought of when I saw his name.

Say you aren't as lucky as you were this season, and Kane suffers an injury which sends him to the sidelines for an extended period, would you be comfortable having Shane Long leading the line for a few months?

That's the sort of scenario that would call curtains on a top 4 challenge and any hope of a run in next year's Champions League. You should be aiming higher than Long.

People are really writing Long off in quite a bizarre way.

The player I think he compares to best is Jamie Vardy, and I'd almost suggest Long has a better finish on him.

No. Hence why I want us to aim higher.

Now you're just being silly. Shane Long hasn't got anywhere near 11 games in a row ;)

I don't know he's like Vardy btw. I'd love him but not because he's similar to Jamie.

Really? He's a striker who relies on pace and deadly finishing. That's basically Vardy's game.

The reason he doesn't score as many as Vardy is because Soton - and us before them - were not set up around his strengths.

I'm not writing him off, I have nothing against him personally. That said 15 goals (2 against us lol) in 2 seasons at Southampton.

We'd get the same output from Chadli in the line up with Son playing as a false 9. I'm most definitely looking at this in the worst case scenario POV.

In that Kane does his ACL a day after the window closes for example, can we, a club that'll be fighting on 4 fronts and cannot treat European competition this season with contempt like we have in the past. Is Long the guy that can keep us competitive in that scenario. I'd say no. If he were to be our 3rd striker I'd have no issues.

As our 2nd striker and back up to Kane. Pass - We will need more than than Shane Long.

He has never really been a #1 striker anywhere he has been. I'd be happy to have Long as #2 and a young striker from within (N'Jie or Harrison) or signed be #3. If Kane went down and they all had to go up a spot then so be it.

Apart from Liverpool's pack of 7/10 STs I wouldnt say many top sides have multiple strikers of equal ability.

City have a clear pecking order (Aguero > young guy who I can't spell Inacheo? > Bony) which the kid moved into #2 spot after playing well. Chelsea (Costa > Remy > youth guy), Arsenal (Giroud > Welbeck/wingers who fill in there), Southampton (Pelle > Long > JRod).

We just need to work out who our backup and kid are (N'Jie or Harrison)

It's a myth that teams need 3-4 top class STs. One clear top guy backed up well by experience & youth is the way to go

WH offer 20M euros for Bacca Milan want 25M.

Milan is such a stupid ******* club, 3rd top goal scorer in his 1st season in a new league and supported by the worst midfield in Europe and they're gonna sell him for less than what we paid.

All you can do is laugh.
yeah but at least you tied down montolivo's contract. yaaaayy

I think his all round game is much better than Vardy's. I don't think his finishing is quite as good though. I'd love him to play the Okazaki role next to Vardy.
