No, it's a fundamental misunderstanding of why we want to buy Stones.

You've seen our defence this season. None of our youth players are good enough to make the step up. The closest would be Christensen and he's on loan to Monchengladbach which is a far better option for his development than trying to crack past Cahill, Terry and Zouma.

I agree he really doesn't play youth as much as he should and I think guys like Mikel and Ramires should be moved on for the academy guys.

In this situation though, there are no youth options for CB who could perform at the same level as the three we have now.
I understand why Chelsea want to buy Stones, and have no problem with it.

I'm talking more generally - the culture of bringing through young players at Chelsea is not strong.

You could always argue that the options coming through the youth system are inferior to prospective options playing first-team football at other clubs.

What happens next time Chelsea want a striker - will they give Bamford a chance (I know he is on loan right now), or just buy someone else? Will Loftus-Cheek ever get a proper run, or will Chelsea simply try to buy a better Loftus-Cheek from elsewhere? Etc. etc.

how much of the youth he has introduced been through choice?
Some of it. He sold a heap of players in his first window in charge, lots of older players too. He was playing Wilson last year while playing RVP/Falcao in the reserves. We have 3 players 21 and under in the 1st team (Januzaj the only homegrown though) and our other youngsters will be rotated/injury cover. A part of LVGs 'philosophy (yawn)' is using young players as backups/injury cover to give them exposure to first team football.

This season there will be lots of exposure for McNair, Lingard, Pereira, Januzaj, Wilson, etc.

Not saying that LVG is holier than thou for doing it, just the way he does things.

I guess it depends on how the loanee's are developing, if they are quality like Courtois or Zouma(even Lukaku and KDB even though they wanted out for other reasons than being good enough) than they would be brought into the squad. If they are not up to scratch they'll be sold.

If Bamford has a cracking season and looks Chelsea class you'd expect him to be in the squad next season.

genuinely wasnt certain, because i remember guys like mcnair and blackett got a few games due to injuries to jones and roe hoe. was wondering if it was more like a pozo situation for us, where we played him (out of position as well) due to everyone else crippling themselves.

Ben Pearson and Joe Rotherwell look pretty decent and are on loan and getting games.

To be fair, I'm not sure any of those players really "came through" the Chelsea youth system from a young age.

And personally I am a lot more sceptical about these young players' chances than you are. I'd be very surprised if Bamford, Loftus-Cheek etc. ever got a proper chance, not necessarily because they aren't good enough, but because the temptation to buy "sexier" more established prospects from elsewhere will always be too strong, particularly to someone as pragmatic as Mourinho.

Chelsea have a lot of potential great players in their youth but a CB isn't one. I would say our best CB would be Jake Clarke-Salter who wouldn't even be Championship level yet I'd assume. It's quite obvious we have to buy a CB with Terry, Cahill and Zouma being the only ones in our first team squad.

We've won 4 of the past 6 FA Youth Cups and the most recent UEFA Youth Cup, so we do have a few players coming about, but would have to wait a couple of years for them to fully develop I'd say.

Blackett was like a pozo situation. McNair played well and earnt his spot for the most part. I can see McNair filling the John O'shea squad role in the future. I still remember our defence at the etihad after Smalling got sent off and Rojo dislocated his shoulder.

Valencia - McNair - Carrick - Shaw :$

danny de silva has signed for roda in holland on a 2 year loan. interestingly makes no mention of roma, just perth. not sure what's happening there because he is a roma player

in terms of youth we have a lot that i have high hopes for

kelechi, rony lopes, denayer, manu garcia, angelino, unal, roberts, ntcham, barker, maffeo, adarabioyo, ambrose, faour, brahim, faupala and humphreys all have potential to go far. won't all be with us of course.

No, apart from JT and Bertie not much has. But there is a hell of a lot of talent in there now, but I'm not very optimistic about their first team chances with us. They really need to go out and star on loan or they'll be sold.

Wouldnt pay much attention to clubs saying players arent for sale. So many times they say that, and it's just another way of saying we want more money.

Everton did that with Lescott. Moyes shouting his mouth off, Kenright giving us encouragement to keep bidding.

Yep.

Everyone is for sale for a price.

Every club goes out a signs players from a smaller statured clubs that's just the nature of football. Supporting a club that are no longer renown as "big club" when the top teams come in for our players can frustrate the hell out of me, I don't want to see clubs take our prized assets but I can understand it and get why it happens, it's football.

The thing that has frustrated me so much on the whole Stones saga has now been going for six weeks, on the 18th of July Jose said “If one day Roberto Martinez or the chairman says: ‘He’s not for sale; we don’t accept any bid’, game over."

The club said he's not for sale, we've had Chelsea lodge a further two more bids for him since, relentless speculation, the media basically been used as tactics and zero respect shown.
