Please demonstrate how those four can play within any formation.

It doesnt take much brains to work out, a diamond in midfield similiar to what Kreuuuzeurns posted or a 4231 that Chelsea play.

If they play 4-4-2 then Mata is wasted out wide, and midfield is still wide open with one of Herrera and Blind who isn't exactly mobile, then there's Jones and Smalling at centre back

Someone or two will have to be dropped for them to make a coherent formation out of it

4-4-2 Diamond would fit everyone in, just swap Januzaj for a DM.

That DM would have to be one of the best in the world to hold all of that in front of him, Di Maria works hard but who knows what he'd contribute defensively. Herrera is sorta alright at it I suppose. Mata gives zero

Herrera sticks out like a sore thumb when you're trying to fit everything in, he plays his best at no.10 and you have Mata, if you're gonna play Mata Di Maria and the two strikers then you'd need two combative physical mids to do all their own hard yards. Man Utd doesn't even have one of those, and their centre backs are shit kids

Exactly, if they could pull off Vidal that'd be huge but that doesn't look like its happening now. Can't think of many others that'd do that job well let alone be available.

It is possible to do, but with a DM like Blind it'll have it's flaws.

If Van Gaal can find a solution to fit all of them in then it would be a huge worry, but for now we'll see what happens

If you have 60 million to burn and 200k wages to throw around you'd probably be better off fixing the weakest areas of the squad

he cannot play that defensive player role. not his fault, it's just not him.
