final minute, west coast win a free for deliberate out of bounds, pump the ball long, cox drops the mark, shuey crumbs, free kick for high contact. 10 meters out, directly in front, slots it. eagles win by 3 points. media and bigfooty meltdown.

You forgot the boos
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I honestly don't think there is much difference for us finishing 4th.

We'd lose to hawks, let's be honest then play collingwood at home, take out last week they've played well at subi if we win that we'd still play ade/syd away.

Only difference is pies at g not subi.
It's a difference but if we can't win at the g against a stumbling collingwood, what's the point?

quite true. And finishing 4th meant we have had to fly back from Melbourne after losing to the hawks in round 23, only to fly back again 5 days later to play them once again.. Getting thumped by the hawks 2 weeks in a row would be pretty morale sapping heading into a semi-final.

I think coming 5th and not having to play Shemantle has worked out perfectly. We get a home final we should win followed by a nice MCG warmup against Collingwood. Then hopefully a trip to Adelaide for the prelim. You couldn't wish for an easier run to the grand final from 5th. The only thing stopping us is ourselves.

If we win against North then its only a 5 day break before taking on either Hawthorn or Collingwood at the G with a full weeks recovery! Its a tough run no matter how you look at it........will have to be at our absolute best if we are to survive the first 2 weeks!

We aren't going to win the flag this year so I care little. A final win or two would be good for our young players but other than that pretty indifferent. If miracles happen I will be back on the bandwagon.

Stop crying about a 6 day break (if we do win).
We didn't finish top 4 so didn't earn the right for any favours. One of the elimination finals is always on a Sunday and the winner of that game always has a 6 day break the next week. This year is it us. Suck it up and move on.

And yet the Cats and Dockers both finished below us and will get a 7 day break against a team with a 7 day break. The winner of our game will get a 6 day break against a team with an 8 day break. Vlad has shafted us big time, not just on this issue but by gifting Adelaide a top 4 spot with 2 extra games against Gold Coast and GWS.

Ha ha ha I see what you did there...tell me what team has a supporter that is motivated to make a sign devoted to the quality of umpiring "How about some consistency umps" and of course, no West Coast person has ever complained about the umpiring
that is probably the funniest sign at the footy I've ever seen.

Dont have much of an issue with the 6 day break, and if you look at if from a fortnight perspective, we play 2 games in 14 days, then the semi, so it evens out a bit thanks to our decent break this week.

Im just happy we avoided a friday night semi. Now that would be something ridiculous to complain about. 6 vs 8 we can manage. Love our finals draw as well, but after some weeks on the road we could be sitting ducks in a GF.

Happy we are playing Sunday not Friday.
1) Getting to the game (if able to get tix) for the early start they would demand for TV on a Friday would be mayhem. A Fri night final here in Perf would be scheduled for a 5:40ish start. Crap time.

2) 1:15pm Sunday if the weather is a nice balmy Perf day will quickly sap any run out of a Melbourne based team.

3) MOST IMPORTANTLY - give JK and any guy carrying a little niggle an extra couple of days to be right for the game. We HAVE to win this game so any advantage to get these guys up I will take. I would even say for JK to play I would rather the nice big break before this game and only a 6 day break before the next. There is no use earmarking an 8 day break before the next final to have Norf kick our pants off as we have no fit forward line.

North are in a similar position to what we were 2002-04 I think. Good enough to make the finals, sporadic periods of really good form but perhaps not strong enough to win a final on the road. They'll have more than a few players in their first final I think?

We should win, but they did push us twice this year so they won't be easybeats. Need to get the jump on them early, get the crowd involved (bootown).

Thanks, you make some good points :)
Still not thrilled about it, but feeling much better about it than I was last night...

Ideal run for us would be North, Collingwood, Adelaide then hawks in the GF. We should beat north, we know we can beat pies in melbourne, despite the game earlier in the year we would rate ourselves against crows at aami (they have been faltering a bit lately) and then in the GF we wouldn't be too scared about hawks as apart from the first quarter we matched it with them for the rest of the game. Early days but just speculating. Hoping crows beat sydney this week as I would rather play them at aami then sydney at home.

Massive call to arms for this weekend. Bring back the house of pain!! Who gives a shit if scotty has a nice whinge after the game. If you think the free is there make sure you are nice and loud and let the umps know. If a north blokes having a shot.....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! :) No stupid abuse though and if you see someone ripping in to another fan then speak up and tell him to worry about the footy. It's good fun to give each other a bit of a ribbing but not when some knobs take it to far. Should be a great game and last home game for the year, so cheer loud and enjoy it :)

Not fussed about when we play. It's as fair as it can be. I just hope the ground staff can get the ground in good condition, and they do seem to do a great job.

Not too sure why hawks fans on the main board are upset. They get a 7 day break (one day more than collingwood) at a blockbuster time slot.

Like I said, it's as fair as it can be:
- WCE (5th) get a day extra break than NM (8th)
- Hawks (1st) get an extra day break than Collingwood (4th). Neither side travels.
- Winner of WCE-NM (outside top 4) get less day(s) break than loser of HAW-COLL (top 4)
- Adelaide (2nd) and Swans (3rd) get same days break. Swans travel.
- Geelong (6th) and Freo (7th) get same days break. Freo travel.

It's never gonna be perfect, but it does reward the higher ladder positions, as it should.

Exactly..The AFL saw an opportunity to shaft us and took it with both hands.
No great surprise that Geelong (likely winner) has a 7 day break against either Syd or Adelaide
