Good luck to O'bree if he gets the position.

Most of us knew it would be his last year at the club anyway, well at least for footy.
Didn't even make 250.

There's a rumour going around that because O'Bree and Josh Fraser are such good friends, that O'Bree is trying to convince both Fraser and the GC to bring Josh to the GC.

Would be a beneficial situation for all parties if Fraser goes to the GC.

As for Cheesy, I'd back him to be a senior coach one day, he is a "football genius".

"I've spoken to (coach) Mick (Malthouse) and told him that I've basically retired," O'Bree said. "I just told him that I didn't want to hold a young bloke back."

What a class act. Hope he does get a cushy gig with the GC, he's had a fine career.

No disrepect to Obes, but he hardly needed to rule himself out of the finals campaign did he?!

I think he would make a great midfield coach, his clearance and tackling work has always been excellent and he could really teach this awareness to young footballers relying purely on talent.

Hope he gets the gig, which I think is pretty likely.

I think he just took the initiative and wanted to end on his terms. There is little doubt he was going to retire rather than be delisted. MM would not have allowed it to appear he had been "let go" even if that was the case. It's a simple courtesy to a player who gave a hell of a lot to the club for a long time.

Maybe he missed the cut

From an article in the Australian

It is believed the Pies have settled on a finals squad of 31 from which they hope to win their way through Friday week's preliminary final against either Geelong or Fremantle, before attempting their first premiership since 1990.

On SEN Matthew Lloyd made an interesting poing I hadn't really considered re trades.

Besides a few marquee players to build the club's profile and to be there 5+ years, a lot are just bridge players who they only need for 2-3 years - until their recruits are ready to re-sign.

The bridge players can then retire as the new players re-negotiate their 2nd contracts and ask for more money.

Fraser might fit the bill there. I have been thinking more along the lines of the GC wanting 5-6 year players, but that would really only be for an Ablett quality player. In 2-3 years their bunch of young guns should be ready to step up and the GC to delist what they're picking up now.

Great club servant, great reader of the play and will make a great coach, I too think he will probably end up a senior coach somewhere down the track and wish him all the best of luck.

I am sure he will take it up. Good luck Obie. You always gave your heart and soul in every match for the Pies
