Usual pre-season hype. Fans of all other 17 teams do the same

I learned from the past. It will be tough to make finals. 15-16 teams believe they can make it (most fans of all teams actually believe they can make finals). Most teams improve.

Brisbane, Collingwood, Melbourne, Swans, GWS, Carlton, Port look all like probable for finals unless some teams get hit by injuries and it opens up more spots.

So, that would be Crows, WB, Suns, Essendon, Freo, Saints vying for that last 1-2 spots. Even Cats and Richmond believe as Hawks do.

Players need to learn new system and take a next step. We did not bring any ready-made players to improve list. Academy kids will take some time to rely on them. Players like Jeffrey, Rosas, Budarick have to take a next step.

And we need some luck with injuries. King not re-signing yet and just jogging on the side-line does not fill me with confidence.

Don’t be scared. Pre-season is a time for fun. We won 9 games with Dew’s obsolete game plan. And the shackles will be coming off multiple players next year. Dimmas game plan seems to be a simple one don’t think the uptake will take long.

In short - WE ON!

The boys are gonna run through walls for this bloke, Dimma has that magic touch in the way that he talks to the guys and builds their confidence .

Super excited for next year

Agree 100%. To be honest always thought he wad a bit of a tool when watching him after Richmond games but what he has shown so far at our club is unreal. The way he has promoted football for not just the gc but qld in general is like nothing we have had before. I guess that's why the afl wanted him in there but my expectations have been exceeded by what he is showing so far. Results come season proper will be the big test though, let's hope he brings the goods and if he does he will be forever hailed as the messiah.

‘He's tearing it down’: Veteran backing young Suns recruit for stellar season starter

Veteran Ben Ainsworth, who has played 117-games in Suns colours was quick to give praise of the young quartet.

“Will Graham is training well, running halfback and can also defend really well and Jed Walters is coming along nicely down forward which is a big focal point,” Ainsworth said.

“Jake Rogers off to the side and Ethan Read is doing really good as well.”

Amongst the talent group, however, one has stood out the most since kicking into pre-season gear.

“Jake trained with us last year and he’s a really good player, real silky clean.

“But you can’t go past big Jed at the moment, he’s tearing it down.”

Ainsworth, who is just two shy of 100 career goals, had nothing bad to say about the new-look Suns.

“Dimma (Damien Hardwick) has brought in a great program for us to be able to learn the best.

“He’s brought a lot of positivity and everyone is playing to their strengths.”

Fellow veteran Levi Casboult agreed pre-season has so far been a success.

Casboult pointed to Will Graham as his stand out pick.

“It’s going well, the boys are training hard and tracking pretty well at the moment,“ Casboult said

“I just think Will sees the game well, plays hard and has a crack.”

Hope it all comes together for Alex
I suspect it's going to be even harder for him to break into the midfield now with Flanders, Humphrey and the new crop incl Rogers eyeing that last spot. He's big and strong - just doesn't get the pill enough and tends to panic a bit. There's still hope but the light is dimming.

I’m not expecting Davies to crack the best 22 any time soon. If he does, either he has improved exponentially or the Suns have imploded again.

He has some attributes I like (tall, puts on muscle, can kick a goal outside 50 at times), but I’m not sure whose position he takes right now. As always, time will tell.

Exponentially?

Not saying he will make best 22 in 2024 but his numbers were only marginally worse compared to Swallow in 2023 who is 31. Ideally, he would replace Swallow and his role in next 1-2 years. We should rotate more players in the middle. None of our midfielders has Davies size and physical attributes and he would be handy there against big boys. He played well in the last game against North. Most people written off Flanders before 2023 season too.

Yeah, time will tell. Hopefully, he will improve the aspects of his game mentioned in the article.
