Saw on footygoss.com.au today Jacob Surjan is training with Eagles ahead of rookie draft.
I would suspect Freo would be pretty ****ed if we had to take him before they did, being a South Freo boy and all.
Could be the Jako influence?...they're cousins.

I dont think they are cousins and I think he is a bit over rated, if he is as good as a lot of people have been saying wouldn't he have been selected in the draft.

aghh, they are close in some way though, may not be cousins, yeh I suppose he would have been drafted if good enough, however we've seen many a player miss the draft and become a star off the rookie list, off the top of my head...Chad Fletcher, Antoni Grover, Damian Peverill, Tarkyn Lockyer, Dean Cox, Rob Haddrill, Roger Hayden...and many more I would imagine...

Surgeon

I have my doubts if "The Surgeon" is any good as well.
I think the Jakovich relationship is something like 2nd cousins twice removed !!

Why dont Eagles look at Brett Jones and Duffield if they havnt already.

They're realated by marriage, I think Surjan's Mum and Jako's Wife are cousins (the newspaper said that!)

Who else is training with them?

He should be on an AFL list, that I am 100% certain of. It's the biggest look over of the 2003 draft IMO.

I saw the same article. Surjan was saying how Jak gave used to call him up after a good game and told him not to get too big for his boots and what his priority should be, ie getting drafted.

Can any of you tell me what sort of size Surjan is? Is he a big boy?

Just saw last week's paper, he's 179cm/75kg but his arm looked pretty big in the pic.

Not very big I'd say, probably Fletcher's height.

I suspect the reason he wasn't picked up was purely because of his height. Clubs these days are drafting taller and taller. Fremantle didn't take a player under 190cm (besides Peake). I really hope we pick him up, I thought his u18 carnival was very impressive especially the vic country game.

I disagree re: carnival Sera. He played ok, but with the calf injury I believe he could have played better.

Surjan is one of those who plays for the team at the expense of his own personal game, so that's where I feel he hasn't been drafted. I think if the Eagles draft him you will see him blossom as a midfielder grabbing the hardball and darting through the traffic with his speed.

This I personally would like to see more of, size is too much of a cop out, especially in light of his year being the best performed in the league and SF best player in the colts.

From some of the reports Ive heard i'm schoked Surjan didn't get picked up.

We must take him with out first rookie draft pick if he's available which i feel he just may be....

He did fade as it went on but he really did some good things IMO. Both his goals against Vic Country were fantastic while he took a screamer against ... SA I think? Thought he looked more impressive in the carnival than he did later in the year for SF seniors (Didn't see him in colts).

Agree. Let's face it though a slight difference playing against your peers vs. seasoned "men". IMO 10 posessions at League =probably 25 at colts. Playing off a HFF, FP you don't have the same impact as playing through the middle. When in the centre he did quite well I felt.
