Where do the Conservative moderates go?

Many have already gone Teal. That will continue for a while, but given many of the Teals are closer to the Greens than actually moderate liberals, time will tell.

Also, the Teals will likely have zero power the next couple of elections while Labor has a huge majority so who knows. Holmes-a-Court and Cannon-Brookes likely will stop putting their own money in and donors will start to dry up. Especially when people realise all they are doing is donating money to bankroll the retirement funds of nutty 50-something women.

The current Liberals are an evangelical Christian party and a greater Israel is a core value of the evangelicals. Unconditional support of Israel is an unconditional requirement for the Liberal base.

I know there are some small "l" liberals somewhere - but they do not have the numbers anywhere.
The Liberal Party are all but devoid of small "l" liberals. That cohort has either got old and is slowly vanishing from the earth and the other ones who were brought up as small "lers", have migrated to the teals or to Labor.

The Liberal party now is modelled on American evangelical Christian party lines however, because we have compulsory voting and because we are quite a bit more intelligent than Americans, the chances of establishing a Fascists Theocracy as they now have in the USA are zero. Indeed, the US is mired in religious stupefaction regardless if the Democrats or the Republicans are in office: they all bow down to "In God We Trust".

In Australia, we have athiests in parliament. I reckon you'd be hard pressed to find an agnostic, let alone an atheist in the both houses of the US.

For now, get the pop corn out and enjoy the Punch and Judy show that is the Liberal Party.

Not sure about that. Haines, Sharkie, Gee have a pretty solid position in traditionally LNP seats, Wilkie, Le in a traditional Labor seat. The Teals are no more “nutty” than them. Once an independent is established then it’s hard to remove them.

They are removed as soon as the money dries up and Labor / Liberals get their act together. The Liberals will be a shambles next election, but potentially are better the election after.

Or they will be going the way of the Democrats purely from own goals. Not for any other reason. Stott Despoja would be glad to know she isnt the only still living destroyer of a party.

At least she has shown some spine...Price to leave the Libs and go independent maybe ?

She doesn't have the nous to function as an independent. Price's "career" peaked during the Voice campaign. She'll be out of politics and forgotten after the next election, after falling down either the Lib or Nat senate ticket.

shes sorry ..... now - after how many days being prompted to do so?

and people call her strong for sacking her ....... LMAO

[edit] was she sacked for her comments - or because she refused to comply with a party direction to apologise

which is it?

Why? What mechanisms to they have to become more 'moderate'? Their members are majority nutters now, installing nutter candidates. They just purged themselves of moderates, and are seemingly convinced they were too woke last election, so why would they invite moderates back in?

Because its always about money, which brings power. If they end up smaller than the Nationals there wont be money.

Gina isnt going to invite them to lunches and dinners if they cant give her anything.

Do you think Gina is advising them to be more moderate?!

I dont think she cares about whether they are moderate or religious nutjobs. I think she wants more access to land and sea for mining, no fuel excise on remote vehicles, lower taxes and royalties on materials, etc.

I really dont think billionaires care about much else. They certainly pretend to care. In the US its abortion and guns. Billionaires wouldnt give a ****. They hate paying taxes and want to be richer than the other billionaires.

The photos we have seen of Gina at Trump and/or Maga events show that she does care for the extreme side of conservative politics.

I dont think you've been paying much attention then. Yes, she cares about money and power. But she's been clearley using her influence in the libs to go further right.

You are correct that she will dump them once it's clear they are done, but she is not a moderating force on them at all.

Parties don't act in their own interests. They act in the interests of all their various keyholders. Usually the two interests align for the reasons you mention. But sometimes, as evidenced by the liberals, those keyholder interests can drive the party into the ground.

I just don't see where any moderation can come from.

I dont think she moderates anything either. I just think she will use them and then move on.

If the Teals decided to be a party they could have some success. But all the independents with their independent ego would make for a challenge.

It could also be Labor become more moderate. Already walking back on climate goals. Albanese is a smart guy. The ALP could be huge. And I bet he really wants the Senate.

Shocker of a Newspoll for the Liberals and Sussan in particular.

While Albanese has a net approval rating of -5 (so by no means is he popular), Ley's is -17, and Albanese leads as preferred Prime Minister 51-31.

The only Opposition Leader to have a worse approval rating than her this early in their tenure was Alexander Downer.

Labor leads 2PP 58-42, which is the most lopsided since the June 2013 results that saw Julia Gillard ousted.

It's really poor polling

I find is astounding they have no clear communicated policies

The poll was also taken at the height of the Jacinta/Indian migrants comments mess. It really backfired on her for not taking a stronger stand, I wonder what the poll respondents would have said had she firmly came down on Price on day one.
