Really hope he is in for the whole season. And if he is he will be a real challenger for the Rising Star.

Would allow Malceski to drift further up the field with Rohan patrolling down back with Tadhg, Everitt

Would like to see something like:

B: Smith LRT C.Bolton
HB: Rohan/Everitt Grundy Kennelly
C: Malceski J.Bolton Goodes
HF: ROK White McVeigh
F: McGlynn Bradshaw TDL
R: Mumford Jack Kennedy

I/C: Seaby, Bird, Jetta (Everitt/Rohan)

Emer: Pyke, Richards (great to have him ready to go if Craig can't get past his injury), Shaw

Meredith will probably have room made for him somewhere with injuries and all.

Shaw normally makes it into my best 22 but I don't usually put Rohan and Everitt in the same side. But with both in we have enough cover down back that Shaw becomes a little more expendable. And I love Bird so he just makes it in.

Hmm. I definitely see Shaw as being more important to the full strength side than Mattner. However, if Craig is to be on the sidelines for most of the preaseason and possibly the start of the regular season (and generally be under an injury cloud) Mattner's value improves. But if Craig is fit, Mattner becomes more expendable and Shaw's versatility becomes more valuable than Mattner's defensive capabilities.
Shit that's a mouthful.:D
I'm glad to see Shaw getting a bit of respect. Always had plenty of time for his efforts.

Apologies if this is the worn thread, but does anyone have any opinions on Sam Reid (brother of Ben-Collingwood). Gonna do alright?

he will put Ben in his place tomorrow night, we got the better brother by far..

He is looking really good. Aside from the debut at the Gabba last year that everyone talks about, his reserve form from all accounts was great (played back, forward and even in the ruck to great effect) and the coaches have ranted and raved about him for the last 6 or so months.

Had a brief injury lay off due to surgery during the offseason but has been talked up by Longmire himself as being a definite possibility to fill our CHF spot in the seniors side.

I suspect it may come down to Reid vs White at some point this year (White would be ahead) but if Bradshaw is unable to play at some point this year (likely) wouldn't be surprised to see Reid and Jesse in the same side in the forward line.

has stickier hands than White, he's gonna be seriously good I hope we hold onto him

Who doesn't.

The sinful stiletto's are out already and The JESSELENKO:diamond: is yet to play or take part in a game. Watch him rip the comp apart with his new bionic shoulder and stick it up this board and the League!

I hope he does Fu, just pointing out that Ried is a good one grab mark.

No denying that Brother, I saw this with my very own double vision at the Gabba - and the best one to vouch for him, is the Loins Orange Oaf Merrit. He saw it at close quarters, for all four!

Here's hoping all our forwards are fit this year and we see some healthy competition for spots (plus Goodes gets to play up the ground). I imagine Jesse will want to step up this year and a bit of pressure to get a berth can only help him. How's he looking to play in round 1 ?

Must say Moore seems to look fitter this year. Also good to see Craig Bird back. He's had an unlucky run with injuries but gee he's got class that boy. Teddy Richards also looks like he's taken a step up. His play on the weekend was some of the best I've seen from him. He's got a lot of pressure on him to maintain his spot once we get all our backmen fit so I'm not surprised he's lifted.

TBH it's harder to pick a best 22 this year than any I can remember. I know we say it every year but I like to think that this year we really do have a lot of depth. Then again it's early, I admit I'm an optimist and every team is a GF contender before round 1.

It'd be nice to pull off a win over the pies on the weekend.

Last time I checked he has played 40 games over 3 seasons, which is enough time to judge his world-class marking ability. Hopefully in his 5th year on the list the excuses will start to dry up

Whilst checking. Did you run the rule, over how many were in the ruck of those 40?

Quite a few months ago I posted stats after 40-50 games (and about 3 years of seniors footy) for each of the best power forwards in the comp at the moment but I have absolutely no clue as to where I posted them. I cbf to go and find them or do all the research again, but Jesse's stats stacked up well against guys like Brown, Fev, Riewoldt x 2, Bradshaw, Tippett, Kennedy, Cloke, Pavlich, Buddy, Roughead etc. He was around the middle of the group (there were about 12 I looked at I think) in terms of goals kicked in their first 40-50 games.

It's not a definite thing that he will blossom this year (the year that most of the above started to really shine) but it is a good indication that if he has the talent and ability that many of us think he does, this year may well be the year we start to see him putting it together consistently.

The problem with those stats, though, is they don't show the WAY White has kicked his goals. Compare contested marks, marks inside 50, etc, and White will be way down. Now, White kicks a few goals despite that, usually using his superior athleticism at ground level to get away from key defenders, but is this sustainable? Is that how you want your young key forward kicking goals? He's a 196 cm, 105 kg small forward!

Also for all the top forwards, 40 games is 2 seasons. Even undeveloped ones like Jack Watts played a fair few games in their first 2 seasons, Franklin/Riewoldt etc played 40. White is into his 5th season now, comparing him with 2nd year players is ridiculous

The guys who played 20 games in 2 seasons are playing consistent seniors football at least. Jesse has had one season playing exclusively (pretty much) as a forward. And guys like Buddy and the Riewoldts have been playing top level footy since they were kids but White was late to footy. You can tell he's still learning.

Excuses, excuses I hear. Perhaps it is. I just think he deserves a bit of slack for at least one more year.

He'll come good. To quote Kath Knight, I feel it in me waters.

I don't think Rhyce is in our best 22 any more. I struggle to find what it is that he offers, and his disposal is still not good enough. At the end of last year i was backing him to pick his game up over the offseason but he's been disappointing.

EDIT: wait, I just realised i left out Hanners! wow this is so hard! Guess you'd have to leave out Rohan or Bird for Hanneberry.
