It's of no surprise the AFL were SEETHING at us for hijacking what the AFL wanted in Franklin heading to GWS. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they had something to do with interferring in that Grand Final. It was hardly neutrally umpired; we were massacred.

Interesting preview of the wingers from the Mongrel. Very strict definition. Expresses interest in how McInerney and Campbell will go.

The Sydney Swans have renewed calls for the SCG to break with more than 140 years of tradition and install a drop-in pitch amid growing frustration in cricket circles at the quality of the tracks at the famous venue.

I've said before, I don't think there was some vast AFL conspiracy in 2016. I just think the umpires got totally overwhelmed and swept up in the result everyone wanted.

My biggest issue will always be with the media totally whitewashing it.

There was really no discussion about it anywhere, other than a couple of hidden articles long after the fact. If it was Carlton or St Kilda etc. there would have been calls for a royal commission.

I know it's sacrilege to say, but I just wish the swans would build our own stadium and do away with the stadium that consider us an afterthought even though we're the ones that keep them in business.

I guess I should write that in the unpopular opinions thread.

Cant remember who said it, but it was a prominent AFL journo (working at FOX I think) said..
'of course Horse doesn't say anything in public, but off air He's FUMING about that umpiring'
Everyone just dismisses them and us as sore losers if we talk about it. I don't care really. I hope once our players from that team are retired, and as time passes, and when they have nothing to lose anymore, everyone starts talking. It just deserves to be scrutinized as what it is... the most disgraceful umpiring in AFL history.

No you're right. The new stand that was finished a decade ago would've been a good opportunity to pay homage to the fact the Swans have been loyal tenants for 4 decades at the ground and named it after a legend of our own. Kelly or Goodes, etc. No, they went with another cricket bloke.

That's because it's a cricket ground !

I can't really speak on the matter as I'm not a Sydney-sider, but from my one venture to the SCG, I was blown away by how bright it was. It's the most well-lit stadium I've ever been in. The colours were popping so much I thought I was in a Deee-Lite video

Public opinion had swayed overtime and people view that the Bulldogs got the rub of the green that day. Only the most diehard Bulldogs fan disagrees. They'll keep arguing 1 overturned goal where it was clearly touched on the line as proof they didn't get unfair umpiring in their favour.

However none of that matters, doesn't change the result

Not disputing that. But it's our home ground as well and have played there for 40 years! We probably had a large say in the funding behind the development of that stand since cricket alone probably would've struggled to manage it themselves. I've seen cricket games at SCG on TV where there is not a soul in the crowd whilst we get 25k+ every game there. Would've been a nice show of gratuity to have a stand named after a legend of ours.

Completely agree with Edmund about the camera angle at the SCG. It's embarrassing and should have been fixed years ago.
It’s an amateur disgrace, there is no other way around it.

Seriously, if they need to, take some seats out and construct a box that the camera can sit on, then do it. If every other stadium can get a half decent angle there is zero reason why the SCG should not be able to.

The media were atrocious. Offsiders were complaining about the one 50-50 call that went Sydney’s way near the end of the game.

I agree the umpires weren’t told to screw over Sydney, but it was made clear in other ways that if you got wrapped up in the fairy tale that it would only be good for your career. There’s no way a well performing league lets the disgraces that happened to the 2 teams that lost to Bulldogs before Sydney (especially the GWS debacle) go by and not put a pin in it.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if the friendly media (that is, almost all of them) were told not to bring it up after the game - and some may have even been encouraged / actively took it upon themselves to muddy the waters like that offsiders bullshit.

Not to mention that the stand is designed for afternoon summer breezes. The wind rockets through in winter and lets the crowd atmosphere escape. The stand would be lucky to be filled once all summer…

Up there with goal line technology as the biggest technical failure in the AFL that should be an easy fix. It's so obvious, everyone hates it - all it takes is moving the camera I don't get why it can't be fixed literally overnight. If it's going to be a seating issue, throw it on the roof.

Night games at least provide a bit of contrast with the yellow ball that makes it somewhat watchable, but genuinely can't stand seeing us fixtured at the SCG during the day.

With your dance moves, I’m sure you’ll get a gig in the music video for Groove Is In The Heart - 2024 Reboot.

PS: the SCG is the 2nd greatest sports ground in the world (after Lords). We’re lucky to have it - imagine being based at the soulless sea of plastic seats that is Homebush.

I liked the hill at the SCG but imo it is the worst of the grounds I’ve been to watch footy and cricket. Admittedly I have not been to Optus in Perth but have been to the other main ones.

Over under is interesting as there were 24 overs vs 12 unders

And if anyone know maths, that ain't gonna work

It's not strictly wrong, because it's not ladder position, it's number of wins. So the teams that are unders could be well under, with overs only 1 or 2 games over.

We had no say in the stand. They didn't even tell us when the development was starting and cost us money by bringing demolition forward so it was during the football season, rather than the cricket season.
