I doubt that.

Beetson working for 12 years with Brisbane for their 3 premierships.
He then went to Adelaide for a bit before joining Sydney in 2006 where he has been since.
He would meet with that many players each year that it is not funny.
He has been at clubs that have produced premierships.
Barass, a senior player has not heard of him? I doubt that. Kinnear would have interviewed players currently at West Coast and he has not heard of him. I doubt that.

Barass seems insecure. he is covering up something or making excuses for his behavior.
I find it disingenuous that he says;

1. He does not know Kinnear
2. He did not know his management were in talks with Beatson
3. He didn't talk with Beatson

I also find it strange timing.

Barrass is a footballer and if you've interacted with or heard him speak you would not be the least bit surprised that he's oblivious to footy figures.

IMO, it was a kind of deflection story due to the story in The West that his back injury is a lot worse than has been revealed before:

"West Coast defender Tom Barrass has made the stunning revelation a serious back injury that ended his season last year has left his career on a knife’s edge and that he is lucky not to be wheelchair-bound.

The injury not only ended his 2023 season but has left him with permanent damage that is not only affecting his football but his home life, at just 28 years of age."

I don't find that suspicious at all rusty. I could not name one recruiter or list manager in the AFL besides Beatson and Dalrymple, and that's only because they've been part of Sydney's list management team.

I find it very credible that Barrass would never've heard of Beatson, and possibly didn't even know about the deal. We know from Taylor Adams that sometimes a player's management can work behind their backs to play the field or to get deals going.
You've never heard of that idiot list manager from Essendon who has clearly won the past 20 years at the trade table only to see it all fall apart on the field. I think not.

I hadn't heard of him prior to being on Bigfooty, no. I'm very glad I know of him now. He's brought enormous joy and laughs to my life.

But I feel like it's worth taking a step back and realising most casual footy fans couldn't even tell you half the players in the competition, let alone a list manager who is generally only in the news for about 4-6 weeks of the year, and even then it's only if you pay attention to the trade period/draft.

If this injury is as bad as you are saying here, how lucky were we that we didn't give him an $800K 5 year deal and lose our number one pick ++.

I am obviously not a casual footy fan. I am aware of probably 95% of AFL players and when watching the footy on TV, I can distinguish probably 75% of players without seeing their number. Fair to say, I watch a lot of footy.

Sure, but people on big footy probably have less insight and familiarity with people within the footy industry than say, professional footballers.

Are you talking about those professional footballers who have managers that speak to All the list managers, and relay a lot of those conversations? Those footballers who are interviewed by Most list managers multiple times during their draft year and combines etc? Those footballers that have list managers come and watch them play when they're 16 & 17 years old - that time of life when these kids are dreaming of playing AFL.
I completely understand how Barrass has never heard of Beatson (even though we tried to recruit him previously).
The guys brain must be (sadly) seriously damaged.. or he's telling furphy's??

This is a very important post! Bullet dodged!
I left out the next part, which is far worse!

“It was a compression fraction to my T8 and I’ve wedged about five of my other vertebrae a bit shorter, so it’s something that I am going to have to manage forever. I am really lucky that I’m not a paraplegic or quadriplegic.”

The injury not only hinders Barrass on the footy field, but affects his everyday life where he is a father to two boys Billy, two, and Benson, 11 months, with fiancé Nadia Rosa.

“It still gives me a bit of trouble in my everyday life” he said.

“It’s OK when I’m moving, but as soon as I’m static it feels like I’ve got a broken back again.

“It’s a permanent thing and it’s something that I work on from the second I wake up – I’ve got to do mobility and get moving and find a way to come to work.”

The powers that be continue to rave on about the dangers of playing after multiple concussions yet allow this bloke to continue where one inoccuous jolt to the back could turn him into a quadriplegic. Go figure!!

Player managers and clubs are always talking about nearly all players, and nearly everyone has talked to nearly everyone at some point.

There's usually nothing in it, until there is, and there's really no reason to doubt either that Tom's manager was discussing things with clubs, nor that Tom was mostly not in the day to day loop of all those discussions.

How on earth can he continue in 2024? what if he gets a knee in the back when attempting to mark or spoil?

What's even worse is that there were numerous posters in the trade period forum who were more than happy to give West Coast our first pick this year and our first pick next year. We talk about dodging a bullet with the Daniher fiasco. We have dodged a cruise missile here.

Loving the uptick in media hype around us
Been pleased with output from both the club and AFL media. Lachlan McKirdy from Code Sports has been a find this off season with his coverage of NSW AFL.
