Sorry it's a bit late - I will upload some more photos soon
Here is a brief (and probably biased) player report from last Wednesday's Swans training. In terms of drills they did a lot of the ususal, with a few high intensity simulations. It was a very hot day so headed for the trees at the first opportunity. this was written for a less swans-keen audience!
Mal = 100% he looked great. Left the track early but he's absolutely fine, I had a quick chat and his hammy is in good shape, he ran at full speed and kicked well as usual (see photo)
Kennelly = what a champ, great guy had a good chat. He took shots at a wheely bin from 30m drop kicking like Rugby - the guy is a freak a natural talent. The other irish recruit (name I forget - McKaige (spelling) grim says) played interference and marked one before it went in the bin, Tadgh not happy. He is 100% and moving beautifully.
Lewis Johnstone - not good at this stage but did some high intensity work, leading and marking on the boundary line - short of breath (see photo). Will be a goody. Injury report says foot but he was running with intensity away from the main group - looked to have a cold to me.
Kieran Jack = excellent - spoke to him for 5 minutes or so about footy, I met his parents the other day.
Ves - awesome today, joined the main group, showed leadership, a lot of yelling and skills to match. Kicked a couple of great goals. Rd 1 - not so sure - 2010 - definitely. I have seen him train many times and he rarely gets through withoout some drama - this time he had something rubbed on his thigh and that was it.
Rok = gun, hardest trainer there, very serious and dedicated. Uber fit. Got a stack of it even in the simulations. Just creates space through sheer running power.
Goodes = Played fwd/mid in most drills, but can't stay away from the ball. Had a shadow (see below).
Jetta - was with Goodes the whole time - being mentored - green boots, looks fit, can kick the ball a good distance. 4 out of 4 from 50 on a slight angle, 0 out of 5 from an angle but still looks good. Moves like the wind.
Rohan = very quick chat but he is settling in well. His hands at ground level are brilliant. Left the track a bit early, just being managed.
Jesse White - The guy is a BEAST, super fit, trained like a monster and will be hard to stop. His biceps look even bigger with the ink.
Currie - tried hard, I don't think he is there yet tbh. Out marked by Mumford in a lot of drills, but looked not too bad.
Bradshaw - very fit, says he is a cert for rd 1, but ran laps only. Very happy to have a bit of a chat once I showed I knew who he was - bored with laps though and seems keen to go.
LRT - a spring chicken, jumping everywhere, still bouncing by the end. I like him, always have, don't appreciate the LRT baggers tbh.
Hannebery - Trains very well, moves well, good skills, hard at it. He's pretty short but very quick - will have some sort of an impact this year, maybe not rd 1, too much competition for spots.
Mattner - elite disposal, great player end of story. Some of his kicking to space is just great to watch.
Jared Moore = looked good, as he did last year. he has a lot of ability, he will get games this year.
Kennedy - not prominent, but looks fit and ran well.
Seaby - trained well, did his bit. Will lead the uck.
Shaw - off the track early. Looked fine though, not sure why.
Barlow - I can see his ability but I am frustrated at his lack of presence. Apparently the fittest guy on the list - make or break year.
Playfair - Took a mark against Reg but really was just hanging around. He's a happy enough chap though.
Grundy - not as prominent as last year to me, but trained well, will suit up in defence.
Kirk - strapping on his ankles, looked good though.
Jude B - see Kirk bar strapping. Looks fit and unbreakable.
MOD - His disposal was average at times. Overall OK session.
McVeigh - standout - controlled all the drills.
Pyke - OK - tries so hard and his kicking is FAR better than last year. Still not great.
Mumford - a big unit. Outmarked Currie regularly in one on ones - he will be a good get mark my words. Finds the ball.
C Bolton - wysywig Battles even in drills, runs hard and looks fully fit. Good news for the swans.
Sumner - handball drill initially, didn't see a lot of him.
May have missed someone, apologies, please ask. No McGlynn, I was disappointed. There is a chance he was doing sprint drills earlier, but I missed him.
As mentioned Lewis Johnstone trained peripherally. Received a lot of encouragement from the main group, as Mal did last year. Not sure what the issue is, but when he did kick and mark drills he looked pretty strong. Sniffles seemed his biggest issue.
Also as mentioned Patty Ves was a real voice out there.
Feel free to ask questions.
