Like the rest was average first half. Worked his was into it thought he was good in the ruck chopping out. Not a perfect game but a goal, 11 possessions, 7 handballs and 2 tackles. Wasn’t terrible
Yeah I mean, it’s first game back so you def need to give him a chance to work into the season, but if this sort of game which we’ve seen for most of career becomes the norm then that’s very disappointing.

Wicks continued from where he left off last year. Had some crucial plays on the last line and then good moments moving the ball forward. He has become an automatic, week in, week out selection.
Harry Cunningham Mach II. I was a huge doubter of the move last year, but kudos to all involved in that decision. Was terrific last night and just gets on with the job. Seems to have really curbed the aggro in his game that used to get him in trouble up forward, and channelled it instead into controlled aggression. Great to see!

Thought it was a game to build on. Not terrible not great needs to get up to 15/16 possessions and 2 goals not one

Ok.

So first half waa horrible.

No fluency, drop/missed kicks and handballs, static movement and soft efforts.

That specific effort in the first was worthy of melts. It was horrible to watch and anyone who say otherwise is a bit too much on the coolaid

The second half, especially thr third was amazing. Looked like a training drill at times out there.

Notes:
  • Big three can work, especially if Logan is the mobile tall.
  • Warner was at his showboating best, and occasionally worst, during that game but you take that
  • Rosas adds a different dimension. Man does not quit in attack
  • Rowie was great all game - showed intent throughout the game
  • Serong looks a find
  • Curnow took a bit to settle in, as did the team to his presence.

I think tonight I will be treating the missus to a nice home-cooked meal with a bottle of red, then turn the lights down and put on the 2nd half in the background.

In the first half there were a number of times where the two of them clashed in such a way that i wondered if they had a falling out. That was even before the knee.

I wonder if all is not well with the business partnership?
Certainly didn't sound like there were any issues when Heeney was talking about things post game in the sheds.

I’ll admit to being wrong if that’s the case. I still believe he knew he’d make contact with Heeney but given the circumstances maybe he was just pissed off and letting off steam.

I miss Will, though.
All good DA.
We are all fired up during & right after a game.
I'd like to think he wouldn't try to hurt a good mate of his. Though at times footballers do have brain fades so I understand how you might have felt angry towards him.

Its going to be bloody tough to find a small defender to drop for Cunners to come back in.

Thought Bice had a really good game
Can't drop Roberts or Serong from the wing
Can't drop Wicks off last seasons form

Is it dropping Lloyd and pushing some of the wingers further up the ground like using JJ as a small forward?

Watched the first half with 6 month old (with her first Swans scarfe) which was not full of highlights. She then needed attention so I missed the onslaught in the second half.

I need to watch the replay but damn 75 points in a qtr is unheard of. Surely that is the highest total recorded in many years for a qtr of footy?

A few random comments:

- Roberts was leading our B&F count at the halfway point last season. So clearly he can play. But I’m more than happy for him to play further up the ground this year if he keeps kicking pearler like those two.

- Carlton were clearly the better team in the first half but they seemed to be expending a lot of energy and they got little reward. We did gift them their first two goals by dropping marks that should have been taken, but I thought our backline did ok in the first half given the pressure they were under.

- Chad got mobbed by team mates when he squared that ball to (I think) Lloyd. I presume it was because he didn’t take the pot shot himself. The four behinds he did kick was maybe the only (small) blight on his game, but I guess they didn’t matter when we were that far ahead on the scoreboard. His (and Blakey’s) acceleration is a sight to behold. It’s not just the power, but the timing too.

- Loved Serong’s game. His kicking is great but so are his second efforts.

- Grundy was mediocre (at best) in the first half but a big reason for the second half turnaround. That’s a tendency he displayed in his first season with us: it’s like he spend half time working out what’s going on and then comes out and fixes it after half time. Maybe he gets some help from Cox.

and the self-belief ... at one point later on, i think leading to sheldrick's goal, blakey took possession at speed and was about to swerve around a carlton player in front of him when he must have seen another rushing at him from his left, and he didn't flinch, just shifted a gear and ran away from both of them

Justin McInerney was elite last night. 31 disposals @ 83% disposal efficiency. BOG for me. Him and Errol turned the game around in our favour when we started to work hard

I'm sure someone can pull out the heat map, but didn't feel like (at least on TV) like Lloyd was down back much anyway last night, and played a fair bit of the game much further up the field. Feel like he is going to quickly be under serious pressure to hold his spot, and that perhaps the end is coming quickly now.

It is between Bice and Rampe for me. Bice feels most like for like but we could rest Rampe for games where the opposition has a lot more dangerous smalls compared to mediums or talls
