yeeeeeeeaaaaaaaah

Influential post-punk band Swans are coming to Australia for the first time ever in March of next year. Forming in1982, Swans were one of the first bands to emerge from the New York ‘No Wave’ scene alongside the likes of Sonic Youth and 8-Eyed Spy. Led by the prolific Michael Gira the band released eleven albums over the course of fifteen years, finally going their separate ways in 1997.

After nearly a decade of pursuing side-projects Gira announced at the start of this year that he was resurrecting Swans, saying of the reunion: “ [This is] not some dumb-ass nostalgia act. It is not repeating the past. After five Angels Of Light albums, I needed away to move FORWARD, in a new direction, and it just so happens that revivifying the idea of Swans is allowing me to do that.”

And move forward they did, releasing their first album in 13 years, My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky, at the end of September. The record was given a respectable 7.7 from Pitchfork and inspired Gira to take the band on the road agan.

Swans will hit Australia for the first time ever in March 2011:
Sunday 6th March – Powerstation, Auckland
Thursday 10th March – Forum Theatre, Melbourne
Friday 11th March – The HiFi, Brisbane
Saturday 12th March – Metro Theatre, Sydney

Tickets on sale from 9am, Wednesday 27th October.

Slightly off topic re Swans, but I thought here might be sort of an appropiate place to ask if anyone here is going to the Grendal / Nachtmahr / Cervello Elletronico gigs over Easter?

Love Grendal but neither here or there with the other 2.

I hope you guys enjoy the Swans gigs.

Love this band now, White Light from the Mouth of Infinity is an absolute classic IMO. Love of Life isn't too far behind either. Their latest doesn't quite match up to those two though.

I was 15 years old when my tender ears first stumbled upon 'rape a slave'

It has been a 17 yr love affair, the man is god in my eyes.

last night was the closest I came to shitting in my pants sober.

In the best 3 gigs I have ever witnessed.

My ears are still ringing.

Pls tell me you guys are aware that they are playing the East Brunswick tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their latest offering is just an outline of what they do with these tracks live.

some of the 5 minute tracks went for 30min.

Micheal Gira and his Swans @ the east brunswick club. Tonight I was musically erased, my insignificance staring back at me as I trascended through time and space peering directly into the eyes of god. I am now complete, body and soul, anything from here on in is a bonus....

That sounds better than watching Ess v Coll on TV.....;)

so loud. so droney. how was that ****ing bass? monstrous. never felt bass anything like that before and i've seen a bunch of bass-heavy bands.
gira. what a voice; what a front man. love it how he just commanded the entire band at times. nick maxwell-esque. :thumbsu:

wicked gig. thanks for sucking, brisbane. :thumbsu:

need the rest of their back catalogue. i'll cry for you, mother my body disgusts me.
love angels of light, and quite like some of solo gira too.
solo jarboe i find an acquired taste.
