Autopsy Sydney vs Dogs Rd 4 2018

Big moments interesting

Dunkley and Daniel choke

Parker did a bit and few for us

Florent took it and made the play

The thing is Parker had HB options and chose a kisk to a potential one on one and he didn't even get it that far. If your legs are heavy HB don't kick. There were at least two HB options and he ignored them. It proved damaging. His effort on Daniels showed he was baked but great players find that little more.

For Fs sake the bloke just played his first game back from injury. He is only going to get better as he get the pace of the game back through match fitness. It normally takes 3 games not 1 game to get this happening.
He has been playing badly for a while. On a similar trajectory to Newman for mine.

Why? He has had 60 minutes in the NEAFL.
Thats exactly why. Clearly not 1s ready.

If Hoss didn't like him last year off regular seconds game appearances, I don't see his performance this round as vindicating a shot at the seniors. Regardless of being played in the forward line (for a patch, not the entire game. Check his heat map).... bottom line is he was all at sea the entire game.

Coaches' votes

8 Heeney
5 Macrae
4 Naughton, Parker
3 Rampe
2 Franklin, McLean
1 Suckling, Williams

Breakdown is straightforward to work out and once you do it's very strange as Heeney is the only player that received votes from both coaches.
  • Suckling, Williams 1-0
  • Franklin, McLean 2-0
  • Rampe 3-0
  • Naughton, Parker 4-0
  • Macrae 5-0
  • Heeney 5-3

I don't think AA was "at sea"

He was just a large decoy , who did drag around a couple of the taller targets.

If he had kicked that goal, his effort would have been appreciated more.

<lets not forget that in 2016 we had xavier richards running around in the forward line>

Someone in the Dogs thread said we're the oldest and most experienced side in the comp.

That can't be true right??

We were 25 years 11 months years old on Saturday so quite a bit older than the Bulldogs who were 23 years and 10 months. Our averages are affected by the likes of McVeigh and Grundy though. We also have a lot of players in the 24 to 28 year old range which does not help our averages.

Thanks. Puts it in perspective that the spread from 1st to 18th is only 18 months.
Yup...
and when you consider Mcveigh, Grundy, Buddy etc............
The most interesting stats are where the lists are broken into blocks ..say 18-22, 23-28, 29-33 , 33 on

You get a better impression of the age of a list.

Swans played alot of young players last year. The list is still pretty immature
However the spine is starting to age ..

I think it is fair to say we aren't playing our best footy and watching the games I keep thinking where senior players skills went during the off season. We have had some significant injuries and some inexperienced players in the team to date and have still managed to win 3 from 4. If we could get an improved performance from the young players over the next few games even if we dropped one or two it will most likely pay off later in the season. I wouldn't write AA off just yet - if he could get going this season it would definitely help out both forward and back.

Also some commentators have made out that the dogs lost it, but really even with our poor handling of the ball our pressure for large parts of the game was pretty full on and caused the dogs to falter. Even Parker's poor effort at the end could be attributed to match fitness - we have a heap of scope to improve, are still winning games and even those team ahead of us are dropping games they should win. I expect us to be in the mix at the seasons end and hopefully we will have a better plan for the finals than in the previous few seasons.

I think it is unfair to judge AA on this game where he played a completely foreign role. If he plays poorly while in his preferred position in defence then fair enough.

I'd rather be September premiers than April......

Its better to warm into a season than go all Norf like winning 11 on the trot then missing the finals

The best form side IMO has been GWS , then Hawks...
Port got owned on the weekend
win ugly, win often

The Champion Data "Bible" has us as the 7th oldest list and 4th most experience. We are tracking to lower both of those numbers next season with Tippett already gone and you'd think McVeigh in his last year. List age profile is what's critical to success it seems and we're tracking just fine with a good age spread and hopefully lots of talent in the first and second year category with more quality on the horizon.

Dogs thread just trying to pump up their brave effort.

Very glad Hunter got a week for his brave effort on Papley. Hunter is a blight on the game with his playing for head high contact, topped the stats for that in their flag year, even topped J.Selwood!
