It's quite funny reading all of you saying you won't follow/watch etc, in a similar vein to those who say they don't watch the Footy Show yet are the first ones on the forum complaining about what Sam's said.

Fair enough a few of the purists have their noses out of joint about the need for change, but it's still a game of cricket, blokes will still be batting and bowling regardless. Anyone who thinks this will not work is kidding themselves, they will get strong crowds and we know CA will promote the living daylights out of it. Getting Brayshaw and McGuire on board? Genius..you reckon having a guy running a newly established franchise with his own 3 hour breakfast radio show, daily, wont use the opportunity to pump it up as much as possible???

It's not a matter of whether or not it will work. Of course it will work, people like watching T20 cricket regardless of who is playing and how promotion there is. It's why the old format was so popular.

For me at least, there is a huge difference between watching and following the new format though. I'll probably end up watching every game, but I doubt I will care who wins. Chances are I will just support players rather than a team. The Adelaide Strikers are just some made up team, and as long as the state teams are still around then these new franchises will have no real relevance in Australian sport.

Yes, he is a good bowler, eddie, (though his stats away from home leave an awful lot to be desired which means quite a lot considering he is playing in Australia not in England) and he was skipper of the World T20 team, etc, etc,. I just don't see the point in having him and Gibbs.

I would have thought they'd try to get a younger player and try to establish a relationship ala Pollard and Bravo because these two surely won't come back the season after

And speaking of Pollard, he's off to Adl & Hopes to Brisbane

Jaques, Krejza, Laughlin to Hobart to take the squad to 17. Last spot won't be filled until the window reopens in December.

Jaques, +Paine, Birt, Shah, Cosgrove, Gulbis, Krejza, Rana Naved, Doherty, Hilfenhaus, Hogan

Reserves: Ponting, Lockyear, Kruger, Johnstone, Laughlin, Feldman, open slot.

Even team that should be pretty competitive. From last year Bailey, Faulkner, RtD, Drew OUT Jaques, Shah, Gulbis, Hogan IN. Not too bad considering there are 2 extra teams for the talent to spread around.

Pretty much the same view I'm taking. If it wasn't for the local lads playing for Hobart I really would have no interest in them, I might still end up going for Bailey's team as it is. Still yet to work out how changing a state to a city in the state is expanding the market but anyways. It's not really either about a dislike for our Southern friends, I just think why would I bother driving down there to watch this thrown together money maker. Sure I will watch it on TV if there is nothing better on but I think we will find is increased TV ratings and decreased attendances. Sure they will pump up the Sydney and Melbourne teams playing each other to get OK crowds but wouldn't be surprised to see the other sides have decreased attendances.

updated the OP and if someone could find an answer to the Tom Cooper question that'd be great. I know last season he and Rana didn't because they had full state contracts but obviously this season.....At some point I'll probably highlight the players who don't have a state contract in the state they're playing in for the bigbash (eg Hauritz, Bailey etc.)

Well, I would have wound up supporting whoever the Marsh bros and Katich played for. It was a big boost when Katich came West. But it wouldn't really have mattered where they went in terms of teams as I'm not sure I care who wins in the same way as I do about the Warriors. I might feel differently when it starts.

if katich and the marsh brothers played at different teams what would you have done?

reported that sydney thunder will announce some signings tomorrow. and....

john dyson (thunder gm) will announce some more on friday on......

foxsports news.

hmmm, could foxsports just try to hide their bias a bit better?

I see on FB that the Heat have announced Peter Forrest will be part of their line-up. Should be handy as he looks like he has plenty of power.

He's only played a handful of T20 though.Maybe some of the Blues supporters might shed more light on his T20/limited overs efforts?

Brisbane still have about seven or eight spots to fill including two international players. Must be a competitive marketplace out there!

Personally, would love to see the Irishman Kevin O'Brien get a go somewhere. Loved that ton he got against the Poms in the World Cup.:thumbsu::)

I heard him say it and thought wtf but he must have been referring to coaching staff given he went on to talk to Shipperd about his assistant at the bushrangers being the opposing coach of the other melbourne team.

The Champions League also a factor. There was an article a few days ago about Clarke and Johnson being unsure whether to sign up because in the contract you sign up for the Champions League too.

link?

clarke wouldnt be picked by any team would he?

It would have been hard when their teams played each other but I would have gone for whoever they played for. It's very hard to care about actual teams in this comp. It shouldn't be as there is only one team in WA but there it is. Arthur buying Gibbs was a turn-off. Gibbs is so keen on himself.

Foxsports are a hoot. Rupert must be so proud.

I think people will start following the teams. The IPL in India was a bit weird initially as people supported the Indian seniors instead of their cities but over a few years it has developed into more of a rivalry.
