Ok I have got an idea I want to pursue in my head, but I cant quite figure out the best way to do it, so thought I would share it with others to see if anyone can help me put this together the best way. Im the kind of person who tries to avoid cords as best as possible and have an efficient setup with everything I own.

My idea relates firstly to my car, where my stereo decided to break, so I was thinking of this plan.

1. Buy a new head unit and speakers for my car
This head unit would have an AUX plug for me to connect any devices in.

This is where I need help, I want to buy a tablet (Im pretty sure it would have to be windows based), and a portable hard drive, velcro the hard drive to the back of the tablet, and have it connected with a short USB cord. This would then create basically a large sized ipod for myself. Now I want the tablet to use itunes and Ive looked into getting an iPad but there is no way I can connect a portable hard drive to it.

So basically what I am asking from anyone who knows anything to do with tablets is what is the best tablet I should aim for that can run iTunes frequently and smoothly with the music running from a large portable hard drive instead of the hard drive within the tablet.
So I can have all of my music on one hard drive, connected to my 'music tablet' and can run it in my car through an AUX cable or just at home through any speaker.

So to sum it up, the requirements of the tablet would be to be
1. Able to run iTunes with no trouble
2. Connect to an AUX cable which they should all do anyway im pretty sure
3. Connect to a portable hard drive powered through a USB

Any comments would be great thanks!

I would like a tablet because I feel it would just be the easiest to transport around and what not, I could get a small laptop but i just think a tablet would be a more interesting and lighter option
I use itunes because I have an iphone, and an ipod already, but i have over 100gb of music, and I just want it to be all together and be able to listen to anything whenever I want to (I already have a 32GB iphone what is full and I am now going down and cutting music back which is frustrating)
I dont really want to get a large laptop with a big harddrive, id much rather a tablet with just the hard drive stuck on the back all portable in one.

So instead of buying a 160gig ipod classic and throwing it in your glovebox you'd prefer to spend $400-500+ on a tablet, $100+ on a hard drive, and then somehow mount it all in a car and hook it up? That's a very round about way of doing things considering your technical knowledge appears a little limited. If you insist on going down this route do a google search on "carputer" and check out what others have done, otherwise (as others suggested) there are easier ways of doing it.

The reason I dont want a 160GB ipod is because I need the tablet to connect my iPhone to, to update my phone and what not, I need a system that runs windows because iTunes is required for my iPhone
Yes my technological knowledge is extremely limited hence why I posted on here, and im not mounting the tablet in my car, as it will be used as a music database not a carputer.
The tablet will basically be a computer strictly to hold and play my music where ever I want through an AUX cable, as well as to update my phone
It will be used off my speakers and other AUX capable technology, not strictly in my car
