To be Fair, Tabs only played in games were it was either low scoring/raining/or an absolute flogging.... Give the kid a chance i think he deserve selection over Big boy Hannath. Because he has more mobility/speed/and would score more goals then hannath could. Dont ride him of just yet.

He just isn't strong enough yet. He will get thrown around and ragdolled.

Hannath is a stronger player and can hold pack marks.
These early games are important. No time to experiment IMO.
Plus Glass is gone. He hasn't taken the best one or two forwards in years. He takes the others and still out-muscled tabs easily. Being beaten by Glass is no mitigator; it is the opposite.

Well, I don't think either are going to be a fast leading forward.
Taberner has got plenty of time to develop, so too has Jack but right now Hannath offers fewer weaknesses.
they both have differnt strengths/weakness to each other, but i guess its up to the boss to see which one gets the thumbs up.

Good point. I still think he makes a better forward than Clarke. Oddly enough, Clarke is probably more of a weapon when resting down back, in my perception. Capable of out-marking opposition forwards, super athletic and can run it out of defense. Is he a good field kick?

Clarke when he comes back into the team will play as our no1 ruck and Sandi will play more of a forward pocket IMO .

Until he comes back Sandi will play as our no1 ruck and Hannath will play forward pocket .

Taberner is a chance to play CHF or HFF but its a slim chance right now because Mayne and DeBoer are holding down those positions right now .

Our back up players are pushing for games and TBH Crozier is head of the pack .
We seem to have an over supply of HFFer's at the moment . Has Duffy ever played as a HBF or back pocket .

.

Nah.

Clarke will need to learn to play as a forward or he will just lose his spot to Griffin or Kepler when they become available.

Sandilands is going to be our No. 1 ruckman until he retires. Clarke is a good ruckman but he is not as good as Sandilands. In the meantime if he wants to play he is going to need to learn to provide a forward target. Our premiership window is now.

I think we'll play Hannath early, as we need a backup ruck to Sandi.

Tabs will probably get games later when Zac or Griff come back in.

Zac is not good in the forward line.

Then he probably won't get many games while Sandi is fit. Sandi is likely to ruck 60-70% of the time when he's fit, which means our 2nd ruckman will be playing as a forward most of the time. Out of Clarke, Hannath, Griffin and Kepler, Griffin and Kepler have shown the most as forwards. So if Zac C can't improve his work in the forward line he probably just won't play unless Sandi gets injured.

If Zac Clarke could become strong in the forward line he would be a star for us. But he has not thus far.
It has got me buggared why that is so because he can take good catches around the ground but has no idea where to position himself in the forward line.
It is like NicNat looking lost on a footy field; ZacC can't get his head around forward plays.
I am not advocating a defensive spot for him incidentally. When he is resting from the ruck they have to find somewhere to put him. It may as well be the bench.

Playing as a Key forward is the hardest role in footy. Learning when and how to lead is a skill that no other player on the park needs to learn.

Jon Griffin also has the advantage of being a very good set shot for goal. He's my tip for the 2nd spot as long as Gumbleton remains out of action.

If Gumbleton had not injured himself I am confident we would have gone with Sandi & Clarke ruck combo and Gumbleton and Pav forward talls.
I still believe there is a chance Zac Clarke will play RD1 with Sandi and instead of Gumbleton at ff , Jack Hannath to take the spot.

I agree Griffin goes good in the forward line but he is at least 6 -8 weeks away from playing. In the interim, Jack is our best alternative.
Incidentally Jack Hannath has played full forward in the SANFL.

Guys in the training thread suggest that Griffin isn't far away.

Yeah I am reasonably confident Hannath will play this week.

Does Sandilands ever play 60% of the time in the ruck when fit? Much higher than that. He plays 60% when he is on one leg. Our 2nd forward needs to give him a chop out for about 5 minutes a quarter.

For a knee reco it is considered 12 months minimum as a conservative estimate.
Ross Lyon has unequivocally imposed an ultra conservative approach to injury management. Why would he depart from that when we don't even need to.

The potential is in what he has produced at WAFL level. Just look at his round 9 performance: 25 possesions, 12 marks and 3 goals, he is also no slouch when it comes to tackling either. He has potential, whether he can reach it or not is another question.

I can only assume they are basing it off of his AFL games which is ridiculously harsh.

I was at both practice matches but I have not reached the point where I can distinguish Hannath from Tabs on the field. Does anyone have some commentary or concrete numbers on both in the forward line over the entire sweep of the pre season.

Here's how they compared for 2013. Similar disposals and about the same scoreboard impact. Hannath took more marks inside forward 50 and Taberner laid more tackles.

Bearing in mind that Hannath spent considerable time in the ruck, you'd have to assume he's had less time forward for the same (or slightly more) statistical impact. So Hannath's a slightly better forward so far... statistically.

If this help:
Taberner plays like Nick Riewoldt
Hannath plays like Kosi
