Take a Chill Pill Everybody

]At the start of the year we were told we had to hang in for the first few rounds given our injury list. That mob that ran out today just undid 5 weeks of hard work by being thrashed (7 goals is a thrashing) by a very ordinary team.

I think saying they are ordinary is well off the mark. Richmond have some very good players and after years of obscurity they are starting to come together nicely.

However, we do have a long injury list and the majority of the boys on that list are very important players not just guys that make the numbers in the best 22.

We have lost two very good midfielders, two very significant small backs, an untried half back who looked the goods in the pre season, and a tall defender who you couldn't fault in his first season. That was always going to have an impact.

The important thing is how we respond to this loss and how we pull up against West Coast next week.

However, it was one match in one week and we lost. It happens, we gotta deal with it and move on.

We seemed to be a bit slow today and I'm not sure we wanted it enough compared to the tigers. To score 1.8 at one stage in first qtr just gave them confidence. Once they broke the dam nothing we could do to arrest it. Beaten by a better team. The mcg hoodoo is now official IMO.

Pavlich when he isn't needed (or perceived to be needed) in the midfield! He is a champion forward, his goal kicking will even out in the long run. Not sure if the same can be said about Mayne

To everyone hanging their hats on our injured players returning, and instantly transforming us into top 4 material, I ask you this :

Who can kick the goals, apart from Kep and Ballantyne, who can deliver multiple goals on a regular basis ???

I agree. We certainly can't place all our hopes on players who have been out for more then 6 weeks plus and believe that they will walk in and improve everything. They need match fitness and confidence.

In all honesty Mzunga and Barlow's confidence may have dropped to the point of Palmer's.

In terms of goals, nobody seems to be kicking them at the moment bar Bradley and Ballantyne. I think we need to seriously consider Jack and Walters at this point. They may not add the goals we want but the promise is there.

In the same respect I believe that Bucovaz will be decent up forward if he can get over his injuries and Van Berlo should be considered as a fall time forward rather then a tagger once there is someone to take his place.

I would like to see Crowley come back and play as a backline negator like Parker was.

do be jelous that u dont have young talent like cotchin, martin , riewoldt, lids, conca and foley.

spud side ur kidding ourself. if u cant win a game at the g u should give up now .

if u didnt have mundy pav and sandiland"s tonight it woulda been twice as bad. tho's 3 are 'A' graders and awesome to watch.

Like...show some respect on this board bra, or u be be getting a card.

It's a very nice feeling knowing pav isn't there when it's pumped forward as an opposition supporter. The ease in which he outmarked his opponent early first term had me feeling.. Oh shit, that's for sure

Pav will attract a double team every week, can't see 3 - 5 goals per week from that option unfortunately

- we got beaten by a spud side and spud players like King and Nahas looked good.

The week leading up to this game had great Tiger/Freo discussion and banter. This just adds to the sour grapes. Poor form.

Bad luck Freo, but i would love to know what the AFL record would be for scores level/change of leads. This was a sensational contest.

double team him creates more space for keps etc
an more chances for smaller players to find space an get goals on the run

How about just once we dish out a thumping. Why is it that we are just incapable of trouncing a team, instead we take the foot off the pedal and let it slow down to a servicable win.

No connection to today's 'loss'. ?
\We got buried today in the dying minutes in a shallow grave.

Piss poor.
We squandered our opportunitys.

That could be the benefit of having JA up there. He and Kep keep the defender's hands full which leaves Ballantyne and Mayne the flexibility to do what they need to do.

You are a spud side. Any team that has a player like Jake King running around in it, is a spud side.

We lost in Melbourne AGAIN,
We have some very overated players on our list, who continually get game time.
We are playing our captain into woeful form, out of position

These worries me the most

When we were 4-1 you weren't worried? One game later and the same players are overrated?

Yeah makes sense to me...

1.8 in the first quarter.
****. Tear your hair out shit.
Game shoulda been over at the quarter but we give them rope to hang on.

How's the Tigers? Kicked 10 straight without a miss at one stage!

We didn't play well but were 2 pts down near the end of the third and Tigers played very well as they do against us..

Next week please.

It'd be nice for the Tigers to actually raise their game against other sides, not just Freo.

No ****ing chill pill here either

I get to see the team, what, maybe 5-6 times a year in the flesh and they serve up that sort of shit. 2.5 quarters the game was good but we ****ing rolled over. Unacceptable

Are we actually in any danger of playing a decent game in Melbourne because I am ****ing sick and tired of seeing my age expectancy decline by up to 10 years because of this team. Can't put a ****ing opponent away, can't ****ing kick, dropping all intensity and the missed tackles............................................****ing cringeworthy

I hope the players had the riot act read to them because by the end, I, as a supporter was showing more passion than the players and if that's happening, that says a lot about the players mentality

Just not ****ing acceptable

i did show respect by saying pav sandiland mundy are awesome. u blokes bragged all week how we where getting ahead of ourself, i was just stating that if u cant win in melbourne then theres a big problem. losing hayden didnt help as imo he was the player we didnt have a match up for. i just think u guys didnt rate us but we are building somethink pretty special.

We bragged all week?? Half our board were on the fence as to how we'd go, not by any means did we have this in the bag. It's not that we didn't rate you, it was also the bye & MCG factor that raised fears.

Indeed. Not sure I'd quite agree with all of that, but I certainly understand the frustration and the reaction to the lack of effort or commitment in the second half. Hang in there for the next Melbourne game, fella...

When you waste so many oppurtunities it just saps energy and momentum. Couldn't believe we were 1.8 at one stage and every time the Tigers flew down the other end it sailed straight through the big sticks, they were incredibly accurate.

Bad kicking is bad football, it's lost us two games this year and it'll lose us more at this rate, I think we're rated 17th for accuracy in the comp.

Every shank that sails out to the right takes 2 days off my life I swear

Now I've calmed down and cheered up a bit I can see the bigger picture and am not as worried as I was about midway through the final term:

- We came off a bye and only Geelong and Hawthorn have come off the bye and beaten someone afterwards (when their opponents played the week before) and I think a lot of that had to do with the absolute shitness that one would generally associate with North/Port
- Richmod are our bogey team and credit due - the Tigers made the most of their opportunities and played well
- Our last 3 games before this in Melbourne were lost by bigger margins (69 v Geelong, 54 vs North, 82 vs dogs) - our next best was 19 points vs Richmond

Having said that we played crap and didn't make the most of our opportunities at all

We will win the derby and beat Port - our big test will be Hawthorn

It was also our first loss on the road so far - not bad - and our first H&A game at the G since round 20, 2009

Don't know whether to delete it or correct it?

Before we wail and gnash our teeth over a lousy performance ( every team has them ) consider the following.

- Tigers could do no wrong. Had one of those days when it all flowed their way. They would have beaten anyone today.
- We are wrecked with injuries at the moment and down 30% on our best side.
- We have played well below ourselves all season and are still firmly in the 8.
- a win next week and we are back on track.

Bad kicking = Bad Football.....simple..

Our kicking efficiency was woeful....and so we lost....end of story.

Agree. We dominated play for long periods of the 1st and locked it in our half only to score point after point, when Richmond got one opportunity to take it down the other end and goal they did and it undid all our hard work. Last in the comp for goal efficiency? Need to get out of this habbit and fast.
