Wolfy, you are not our coach by any chance? Very informative and right on the money as always, i was actually impressed with Watts game, yes he didnt get that much of it but it was the deft touches, knock ons and smothers that go unrewarded on a stats sheet but the coaching team would have been wrapped with some of the things he did, Anyway how is your mate Sculls going with the knee? Would have been the difference last week i would have thought.:)

Mate I know what you mean about Watts hitting that pack but I think everyone is way to focus on it as it would of been an error for him to attack that pack.

1) He was too far away from the contest to actually get there, if he would of there he would of just hit some players.]
2) The purpose of hitting the pack is to cause a contest and the ball to spill out the back and out forward to run onto the ball heading towards goal (we have done this a number of times and is a set play)
3) The ball split to the back of the pack without him hitting the contest so if he had of tried he would of end up on the ground out of the next contest
4) As the quickest player at the club you would want him on his feet moving towards the next contest.

Overall everyone is so concerned about lack of physicality and jumping onto the packs that they don't realise what the players are trying to do and sometimes that is keep themselves in the contest to effect the play which is what the coaches want them to be doing.

Another posters commented that he is playing naturally and thats why he was holding up the kicks when he marked on the wing/chb... If they watched the game it had nothing to do with his thought process rather than his intructions from the coach.. when he was marking it there was no one behind him hence he had no options and had to hold on to the ball. MFC wants to play on at all costs but the game plan especailly with the forward press means if the forward get the ball in the defence and their is no quick break the teams onholds onto the ball goes across the ground and tries to break the zone that way a little like soccer were the trusts are set up by the defence.

Good post.

Dont agree that he shouldnt have had made that contest though - running on to the ball is for the runners. He's not leading or attacking the ball with authority yet - but it will come over the next few years.

All I was trying to say was that Im looking forward to when he contests like Reiwoldt or Brown. Im right behind the kid dont worry.

One of the few shining lights for us today. Almost felt sorry for him in a way.

What a ****ing player.

Bruce without the hospital kicks and with the much bigger body. Each of his arms is a first year player

Great player. His first half tonight was inspiring. After half time, he fell away a bit but still went hard when it was his turn. Fluffed a couple of kicks at the end but when no-ones presenting, it makes life hard for the kicker doesn't it.

I think we will look back in a few years and wonder how on earth Tappy slipped to us at pick 18. It's a bit premature to label him as good as Scully/Martin/Trengove but I don't think he's far too far behind.

This guy is soooo good along with his best mate Trenners. I have a new found respect for South Australians. :o

Seriously though, this guy is an absolute machine.

Funnily enough, that was the recruiters opinion when we landed him!

The dude is a monster and exactly what our backline needed. A raking kick and his tackling is brutal, he's rising up my favourite player rankings real quick!

Something in the water down at Prince Alfred (which if what my more dirty minded adolscent friends tell me is true, is a terrible name for anything, let alone a school) College.

Trengove, Tapscott and Viney!

LUKE I LOVE YOU. We were front row members wing and were yelling at him everytime he was near. 'WE LOVE YOU LUKEY!'. The one time where he was going to chip it into the 50 but had a shot which Jurrah marked on the line, he did it because we were yelling at him to shoot and were 3 metres away from him
