Id rather be last with the group of boys we have now, then first with the turkeys we had for 10+ years before.
That's what we all fear - winning a flag with a bunch of turkeys.

If our best 22 doesn't change dramatically over the next 3 years then we are just going to manufacture more of the same from the Laidley/Scott era.
If the club gets in Kelly and Martin for example, you would need to make a significant change to the midfield structure, if you plan for Ahern, etc to come into the side where are all the current players going to go?
The big question is, if Nick Blakey chooses Sydney, where will John Blakey move to once he is forced to quit his job due to conflict of interest?
We don't need "dramatic" changes to become a contender.
Let's assume for a minute that we pick up Martin and Kelly, Preuss continues to improve and we have a better run with injuries. We don't need "dramatic" changes to become a contender.
Ziebell would play utility and Dumont would make way. One of the flanker types would make way for Ziebell. Ahern won't be an issue until late next year.

I imagine our best 22 by the start of 2018 would then be something like
Williams Tarrant Vickers-Willis
Higgins Thompson McMillan
McDonald Cunners Clarke
Preuss Martin Kelly
Simpkin Wood Garner
Turner Brown Zieball
int. Wright, Jacobs/Dumont, Hrovat/Anderson/Ahern, Hansen/Daw/Goldy
So the players that make way are two/three big guys (Goldy/Hansen/Waite) plus smaller types in Dumont, Gibson, Atley.
That is not a 'dramatic' overhaul as such but it is a pretty material 'reset' -
- smaller backline with more run and class
- completely new midfield with more run and class
- smaller forward line loaded with class and grunt.
A welcome distraction nonetheless.SA under 18's would beat us. Their skills are markedly better than ours.
John Blakeys kid running around for the allies also.

Was liking the look of the kid Bell... Next minute; commentator says those vomit-inducing 3 words: Sydney Swans academy.
Like the look of Lukocius, guy is a beautiful kick. Not sure where he's projected to go.
Need to get Hugh Dixon as a replacing for Nahas.
