I would not be surprised if he actually quit the game this year despite his contract running until the end of next season. That would be a horrible way to end his career.
Every similar incident has ended up being a random, largely forgotten, footnote in a player's career.

Rowe is the biggest shill going around. He will say anything if he thinks it's what his audience wants to hear.

I had a listen to the podcast, Im really not clear what point Rowe is trying to make.....

As Tredders said, this story was coming out either yesterday, today or next week. I'm not clear why Rowie thinks it's a huge issue that it 'broke early'.

What he said no, how he said it - not sure what you mean?

He made a comment to matt crouch and it was overheard.

Obviously I’m extremely disappointed…. Tex is one of my all time faves. Was genuinely interested in what he actually said and how he said

My point is you are massively downplaying it as 'something stupid'.

It's a hell of a lot worse than that.

No its not. Not if Tex instantly regrets saying what he said, apologises and accepts his whack.

You want to make this something bigger than it is because it falls under the taboo category of racism. You are taking any human element out of the context without even knowing any of the details surrounding the situation.
If Tex held staunch racist beliefs and had but a modicum of integrity do you really think he would so willingly fall on his sword the way he has? No, he ****ed up,knows he ****ed up by saying something stupid and now regrets his stupid action.

People make mistakes dude. It isn't the end of the world.

Jon Ralph: Taylor Walker’s racial slur proves the long and painful battle Eddie Betts talks about is far from being won

What does Taylor Walker’s former teammate, and friend, Eddie Betts think now? Maybe that Tex is just another who stands up for racism to get good PR, writes Jon Ralph.

The Advertiser/7NEWS Adelaide update: AFL bans Taylor Walker for racist slur,
...
Friday, August 6, 2021: What's making news today
The most powerful AFL moment in recent years might have come on a Zoom interview rather than anything that happened on the football field.

It was in June last year when Eddie Betts poured his heart out – again – on Fox Footy’s AFL 360 program after he was racially abused on social media with a photo of a monkey.

Betts had clearly had a gutful.

He was angry and confused and in pain. Again.

Tex Walker has been hired by the Juventus Women’s team, I think it will go well

also

So much so that I can't remember any of them(incidents)besides Eddie's .

i remember banana lady and vaguely Sherman, and Eddie Lumumba, Eddie Ape, Eddie’s Report, Nicky Winmar, McAllister saying ”act like white people”, Matt Rendell being fired (and hired by Collingwood), Goodes getting rubbished by that teen... There’s the usual Instagram arseh*le post. Maybe indigenous people remember them better than I would. ****, on reflection Collingwood are busy beavers.

I also remember Carey glassing his missus. DeGoey’s still up on sexual assault charges. Willie Rioli caught with drugs at the airport. Stengle and Crouch on the Colombian Marching powder. Patton being a porno director. Jack Watts enjoying swimming and **** and car accidents. Peter Parklands and his mates. And of course Essendon’s entire team drugging it up. I suspect I’m missing a few, since it’s hard to keep up with a culture as morally bankrupt as the AFL - who are loving this by the way, since it drives “holier than thou” engagement and makes them feel good without providing *any* solutions to indigenous problems.

Sure Tex did the wrong thing, and he’ll be slammed for a long time. But these calls to sack him are ludicrous. Where’s his incentive to improve himself, to rehabilitate? After everything good he’s done for the club? If we’re going to start going zero tolerance forever on everything, get ready baby, I’m going to have the time of my life.

It is completely outrageous the moral posturing by the likes of Ralph on this issue.

He is on TV every single week with Eddie McGuire who has made as many racist comments in his career as Tex has scored goals this year.

He also is only a few pages across from Andrew Bolt in the paper every day.

A total hypocrite.

Strong first post, come back anytime

Just a quick one for Matthew Nicks to ponder, Michael O'Loughlin should be one of the last people to talk about community standards.

Pretty sure paying a teenage girl off to avoid a rape charge trumps any racial name calling. $200,000 is a bucket load more than $20,000.

We all have skeletons on our closet, so those Port Power lumps can come down off their high horse and stop being so judgmental.

We can take some real learnings from this. The moral of the story is

1. Elbow people in the head instead, save 20k and 6 weeks
2. Identify as anything but white as then the media and social engineers will ignore you and it'll never even make the news.

Just physically attack and refuse to explain. TEX would of been better off king hitting him at the huddle.

Tex did wrong, he's been rightly punished and will learn from the experience and is highly unlikely to re-offend
The club has handled this correctly and not tried to sweep it under the carpet.
The publicity has highlighted and reinforced that racist comments are unacceptable, which can only be a good thing.
Given all that, calls for Tex's resignation, sacking, imprisonment or assassination are way over the top. He'll learn and be a better person which is what this process is all about.

It’s more than stupid given all of the education that he would have received across his career. He a former captain and leader ffs! Ending racism is about changing what you think. Stupid implies that it’s a simple slip of the tongue which is still missing the point . It shows that deep down this is how he thinks which is not ok.

It’s certainly debatable on the level of stupidity Tex has shown with the remark (would like to really know what was actually said).

The other issue is if it’s not ok, do you want more punishment than 6 weeks suspension, doing a personal apology and public humiliation? An entire-season suspension? A lifetime imprisonment?

In the end, Tex just has to retire. I am gutted, as are my kids - he was their hero. But if he plays on it means it will be raised at every game, every indigenous player will be asked how it feels playing with Tex, etc etc. If he stays on playing he is saying its all about him, with no genuine care for for the club or his team mates. For everyone's sake, the big fella needs to call it quits

If our indigenous players are going to have ongoing resentment around tex being there then I don’t think it’s worth playing him for another year. Our focus is on rebuilding and we can’t afford to have division in the playing group again.
Edit: I would add to this that the strong rumours were that tex fostered some of the divisions that we had from the camp fallout too. This latest episode doesn’t help that. As great a player as he’s been we can’t let sentimentality get in the way of our future.

To all you SJW who continue to yell and scream and demand Taylor Walker get sacked over this, pull your heads in.

He is not racist. Stop pretending for 1 second he is. He demonstrated an unacceptable social behavior that is not acceptable by anyone.

If he was racist, this behavior would have surfaced well before now and since he played with Eddie Betts, Charlie Cameron, Shane McAdam and many other Aboriginal players, none of them said or noticed this demonstration of racism before.

if he had an inkling of racism in his everyday behavior, I’m extremely sure Eddie and Charlie Cameron or any other player would have picked up on it before now. They didn’t. Eddie is strong enough on his conviction to say something and call him out. He didn’t

So, stop your Sunday school preaching and start accepting this was an extremely poor error of judgment and he will learn from it.

If he didn't have any inkling of racism he wouldn't have called an Aboriginal man a black campaigner.

Rubbish.

He and the Adelaide Football Club have to accept this, own it and then educate others on his mistake. Don’t shy away from it.

Yes this won’t go away, and neither should it. Racism is Australian isn’t going away. We need to do so much more and Taylor Walker now should use his platform to help eradicate that language and behaviors shown in the community.

every interview he does, answer the questions with honesty and say how sorry, wrong and unacceptable his words were and articulate how much pain brought upon the Indigenous community of Australia.

He should use his position in the community to evoke change, not show everyone that a mistake gets you fired.

Right!!

so, you have never said anything in the heat of the moment and then had regrets.

You have never accidentally used a homophobic slur? You have never questioned someone sexuality, you have never questioned someone intelligence, or ability to finish a task, even in the privacy of your own home or office.

does that then mean you have those underlying tendencies? I honestly don’t believe someone does.

however, multiple time I would safely say someone does.
