Players gain most recognition and respect when they have a long career and played in Premierships. Our 2015 Team may be on their way to greatness. In 2011, the Club celebrated 25 years printing the book Flying High. West Coast Eagles Team 25 1987 - 2011 was selected as follows:

Backs: Wirrpanda McIntosh Brennan
Half Backs: McKenna Jakovich Worsfold
Centres: Peter Matera Kemp Mainwaring
Half Forwards: Cousins White Heady
Forwards: Lewis Sumich Phil Matera

Ruck: Cox Judd Kerr

Interchange: Pyke Waterman Banfield Glass Evans Embley Hunter

I have been fortunate to have followed the Eagles since their inception so have experienced the highs and lows. Watched the development and blossoming of some great careers.

Who from the current squad and also since 2011 could possibly force their way into the best ever Eagles team.

Candidates I would consider would be Marc Le Cras, Jack Darling, Josh Kennedy, Shannon Hurn, Elliott Yeo, Nic Naitanui, Andrew Gaff, Luke Shuey, Brad Sheppard, Eric McKenzie, Andrew McGovern, Sharrod Wellingham.

Some are another year, a further finals campaign and possibly a Premiership or two away from greatness.

Good to see the back of Mitchell White at CHF.
Darling and Gaff not in the team yet.
Pity Mackenzie is going to potentially miss a premiership year.
He should really be able to push McIntosh for FB in the next five years.

Lecca to take Phil Matera's spot alongside Lewis after he wins a flag and passes his goal tally. Naitanui to certainly be in the squad by the end of his career. Hopefully in time Gaff will be pushing for Mainwaring's spot on the wing (also with a medallion or two around his neck).

Kennedy a definite in the forward line. LeCras probably aswell. Too early to call though on a lot of players, especially midfielders where competition is very difficult.

If Gaff spends his entire career at the Eagles, I imagine somewhere along the the way he will take Mainwaring's place. His probably the most likely of our current mids to claim a spot.
