Lets hope they drop Deluca - can't possibly play him and Kennedy - will be too top-heavy. Fisher will definitely play - I guess Denis is giving him a message. Hope they play Russell. Bannister will play, and get the role on Buckley.

So ideal I/C = Kennedy, Fisher, Bannister, Russell. :)

Have a feeling they'll include McGrath given the job he did on Buckley in last years game, considering he is likely to play forward on Sunday.

Fisher's a very good player below his knees, so I'm not sure wet weather is a good enough reason to drop him. I personally wouldn't even entertain the thought. I can understand the need for extra defenders this week, but Fisher's a future star of the game.

If it really is gonna rain, then Deluca would have to miss. Perhaps with another tall... McLaren? The ball-ups aren't too high in wet conditions....

Look's like this is the way Denis is leaning ... would be very disappointing to see Bannister cut though.

can someone who as been actually named in the starting line miss out? if so i hope it's saddington.

Usually they leave out players named on the interchange. Can't think of any time they've left anyone out named in the 18.

unless they are under an injury cloud. waite was named for the sydney game but didn't play.

You're both right. The only players they cut from the 18 are those that failed to recover in time.

Kennedy is a certainty and I have a feeling that Wiggins may have forced his way into the team due to performances in the VFL.

DeLuca - out
Russell - May miss as I heard he had copped concussion last week and had to go to hospital. Is this info correct, can anyone confirm?

That was the week before.

These would be my changes as well unless Pagan wants to bring Wiggins in to make the other players kicking look good as Wiggins is the worst kick on the list which is why he is never in the side for long, however some other players could certainly learn from his attack on the ball and if it is wet his kicking might not matter so much as his hardness will compensate, so maybe him for Thornton who is way out of form and could do with a run in the Ants winning side.:thumbsu:

Kennedy in for Deluca
Mcgrath in for Russell
Would like to see Blackwell get a game to but who else could you drop

Just what we need drop Thornton when we lack key defenders as it is:eek:
Blackwell is struggling to break into the ants starting line up let alone stepping up to play AFL. Agree with dropping Russell though as he just isn't up to AFL standard at the moment.

Thornton is not a key defender by any stretch of the imagination which is why he keeps getting beaten and is so out of form and it's not like he will be taking one of the Collingwood talls this week anyway, with Kennedy in Lance will be playing in defence. As for Blackwell if it is wet we will need all the small running players we can get.:D

The fact that Wiggo has been named is a dentriment. McGrath should be in the side anyway.

Lappin will be int he firing line if his form persists.

The Blues, 'collectively' will put it all together sooner rather than later. Bring it on!

Thornton won't be dropped as he's been named in the 18 (see above).

Blackwell isn't in the squad so he can't play (he's not even named in the 18 in the VFL).

I think that wiggins wont get a run, i would probs rather see Jordan (both) get a run ahead of him

Can someone please explain to me the facination with Thornton?
NO, he is not a key defender I concur and therefore generally, not always, is well beaten by the better FF's of the league. Fair enough. That means he is a HBF or FP right?
So what do we expect from todays HBF's or BP's? First and foremost they are expected to beat their direct opponent. Beat in general, meaning their opponent has little influence on the scoreboard and game as a whole. HBF or BP these days should also have a skill or combination of skills such as courage, foot skills, good decision making, rebound from 50, strength man on man or good judgement of the ball to name a few. In my opinion Thornton has none!
What frustrates me, and many football fans (not just Carlton) I have spoken to agree with my sentiments, is that I so often read/hear from sections of Carlton fans how important he is to club/back line and future of Carlton. Is this blind loyalty or do we condone mediocracy and infact embrace it? Can we speak of being a genuinely good team in the next 5 years and rest our hopes on the likes of Thornton as so many do? Let's be honest and call a spade a spade as we do with so many other players, so that when we do speak we do so with some credibility.
I don't really have a genuine problem with Thorton, a fringe player at best and I think he would be lucky to get a game elsewhere. It is when he is spoken in the same breathe as the Waite's, Fev's, Lances, Stenens' etc of Carlton that I start to scratch my head and get annoyed.
Another problem I have is his body language. In my opinion it is no better than the heavily criticised Matthew Richardson's. When his opponent takes a mark, he throw his sholders and arms around and glares at players around him with a look of disgust as though they are to blame. We mock, maligne and vilify Richo for it yet tolerate it from one of our own.
Please give me your thoughts as to why he should not be replaced by a Hartlett (when fit), Bannister, Livingston (probable six of one half a dozen of the other) or any other player.

Gee I'm glad you are not on the selection commitee:o

Apologies for my last post... Whilst essentially I do feel the way I do about the named player, it may have been a little harsh...
I have been a 'paid up' member for 20 years and as loyal to the club as anyone, but these are dark days, if not the darkest and frustration, annoyance and resentment may have got the better of me.
I probably should have just written...'I think we should give Thornton a week in the two's to find some form'.
