Go The Mighty Hawks
O.K here we go less than 1 week out from the start.
Time then to pick your team for the Pies game
To lead off I will go with
Mccabe Hay Rawlings
Tallis Croad Smith
Lekkas Chick Harford
Crawford Holland Barker
Dixon Thompson Lord
Rehn Bowyer Johnson Macpharlin Graham Vandenberg Piccioane
Em: Woods Hazell Rock
I would have Bowyer & Vandeberg rotating on Buckley with a very defensive outlook- stop him they cannott win. Crawford would actually play on the ball most of the time with he & Chicky going forward to rest when neccesary.
Harford & Lord would rotate as would Johnson & Piccioane.
Unlucky's : Woodsy- if we can leave him out we are getting some depth, Hazell& Clarke are unlucky as is Rocky.
Cheers anyway

We have the advantage of relatively few injuries at present which is a good thing. This is how I would line them up.

B: Rawlings Hay McCabe
HB: Graham Croad Smith
C: Bowyer Woods Tallis
HF: Crawford Holland Barker
F: Dixon Thompson Lord
Foll: Rehn Harford Chick
Int: Johnson Vandenberg Piccioane Barlow
Em: Rock, Lekkas, McPharlin

I have changed this about a thousand times and I'm still not entirely happy with it. Just goes to show we are getting some depth.

Disappointed I couldn't find a spot for Rock but I still think Woods has something to offer and I wouldn't mind seeing Barlow thrown around in the midfield occasionally to add some height. Piccioane deserves his spot and is improving with each game. As for Vandenberg he is hard at it and maybe he can put the stoppers on Buckley, after all he had done it before.

Hazell and Clarke will eventually get in as the inevitable injuries, form drop offs etc happen through the year. Same with getting Lekkas onto the park, although when that happens I think a wing role is better for him than defence.

I've gone for similar personnel but a slightly different line-up,considering the opposition.

McCabe Hay Graham
Smith Rawlings Tallis
Bowyer Chick Croad
Harford Holland Barker
Dixon Thompson Lord
Rehn Woods Crawford

INT : Rock,McPharlin,Piccioane,Johnson

EMERG : Hazell,Clarke,Lekkas

I reckon Hay will take Molloy;Rawlings to Rocca;Graham to Tarrant and yes Croady to a wing where he'll run himself crazy until his lack of match fitness tells and he changes with McPharlin off the bench. Collingwood have no-one to match these two in the midfield. Woodsy will get Buckley as Vanders may have to come back thru BHH after his ankle injury.Rock must play in this game,if only as insurance as a mid-field shut-down weapon should Collingwood get a run-on. Piccioane should get an opportunity replacing whoever may not be performing in the midfield too.KB probably needs a few more runs with BHH as he's missed a lot of footy.

I'm not saying this is our best 22 or a permanent one ...just looks the goods against this weeks opposition.

This leaves the following players to front up tp Willy in the final practice match at Box Hill on Sunday :

Nicholls/Williams/Bateman/O'Farrell/Hazell/Ries/Vandenberg/Clarke/Loats/Lonie/Greene/Obst/Barlow/Cox/Dent/Lekkas/Campbell/Ball.
Throw in Matty Brewer/Banksy/Pugsley/Georgiadis and you have a VFL side to die for !!!....and ,for what it's worth,THAT leaves the most amazing young side to turn out for BHH ressies.

Look out Collingwood...look out Willy.

Hay on Molloy no problems but I'm not too sure about Graham on Tarrant. I think I would rather see Rawlings take him and put Croady on Rocca freeing Radar up for the wing. Plenty of options there but I think Croady plays best on someone like Rocca who isn't known for his chasing. Still however Schwabby lines them up, I can't wait! Roll on Saturday!

B: Tallis - Hay - Graham
HB: Smith - Croad - Rawlings
C: McCabe - Harford - Bowyer
HF: Barker - Holland - Rock
F: Lord - Thompson - Dixon
R: Rehn - Chick - Crawford
I: Johnson, O'Farrell, Picioane, McPharlin

Leaving out: Nicholls, Vandenberg, Clarke, Hazell, Barlow, Lekkas amongst others.

Rocky holds his spot, you can't drop a bloke who played 24 last year. SuperLuke on the bench for height and variety, Johnson spells Bowyer - geez, I've left out Woods! Just realised! Rock to bench, Crawford to half forward, Woods roves, Picioane out. Sorry Tone!

Anyway, as I was saying, Johnson spells Bowyer, Crawford and Harford, Chick & Rock, Woods & McCabe - that's who I'd be changing. Harf & Cindy on the flanks creates goal scoring opportunities.

Down back - Croad on Tarrant - Tarrant got the better of him last year, the Kid won't have liked that. Rawlings on Molloy, Graham on Rocca to hurt him going the other way, and whoever actually plays full forward goes to Croad.

Tough on the Butcher to leave him out, but surely Chick gets the Buckley assignment after he killed him in the contests at Coronial last year. Woods and Crawford are second and third choices.

Footy!!!!!!! Yeah!

Vandenburg Mcpharlin Obst
Smith Holland Johnson
Ries Rock Graham
Cox Hay Lonie
Williams Croad Clarke
Loats Greene Bateman

Crawford Chick Thompson Dixon

------------------------------------------

See how close this team can get to Collingwood, before unleashing the real thing on the rest of the comp!

I like Ricos side, with a couple of positional changes.

Thommo and Croad line up alongside one another at full forward and Harford more into the midfield. Bring Dico out to the HFF.

Maybe just maybe, Tim Clarke might get selected. Did everything right in the Ansett cup and looked so at home in the 'elite' company. Bowyer might not have the match fitness behind him. Anyway my 'smokey selection' is for Tim in, Bowyer not quite ready yet.

With you Danno...Glenny B is a must and I know you're also the surrogate love-dad Grendel(not sure that sounds so good actually !!). You may be right about his match fitness, but I think he'll come up.

-Rico OGBSLD (Organisation of Glen Bowyer Surrogate Love Dads)...no,it'll never take off.

Geez is there anyone on here who doesn't like Bowyer. Where do I sign up?

I nearly laughed myself silly when he put one of the Richmondscumfilth into the fence in the opening minutes last year.

bowyer is a gun and hell play for sure!!!

Hawks line up might be...

B. Rawlings Hay Tallis
HB. Mccabe Croad smith
C. Bowyer Woods Graham
HF. Harford Holland Dixon
F. Barker Thompson Lord
R. Rehn Chick Crawford
INT.Woods Lekkas Mcpharlin Johnson
EMG. Picione Hazell Rock Clarke

I tell you what we have alot more depth this year and it is bloody hard picking a team as there are so many possibilities...and players deserving of chances...but hard to go against the tried and proven for the first round...

Apologies to the following players who i think will miss...Clarke, Hazell, Johnson, Rock, Picione, O'ffarell, Loats, Nicholls, Barlow, Bateman, Ries, Greene, Lonie, Cox, Dent...Not a bad supply of talent to rely on.

good luck picking the team to the selectors.

cheers

My Line Up:

McCabe Hay Rawlings
Graham Croad Smith
Tallis Harford Chick
Dixon Holland Barker
Rock The Beast Lord

Rehn Woods Crawford
Bowyer Johnno McPharlin Clarke

I have probably left someone blatantly obvious out but anyway....

BTW, my love child'S for this year will be the same as always, Thommo and Chris Obst

Great effort all of you, trying to select the first side, i can see logic in all of them, but Grendel sit down and take a valium, because the rumour ive heard is Dent is a certainty for the first game. Apparantley the powers that be are rapt with him so far and think we need his experience down back. TRULY

Didnt quite have the correct 'mail' there Bubba

(Im pleased to say)

Gee im chuffed with myself and my 'smokey' selection, go young Tim Clarke. The first Norwich rising star nominee for the Year! (Eventual winner too!)

But have to admit, would never have guessed that Cindy would be selected at CHF!!!

Really think this one is very winnable, Pies have brought in quite a few and should take time to 'gell'. Our height advantage isnt as pronounced as i thought it would be, but i still like the quality of our talls in comparison to theirs.

Midfields look pretty even but watch out as Daniel Chick shows s***e Mike why he is one of the top thirty (let alone top fifty) players in the league.

CARN THE MIGHTY HAWKS!
