B: G. Johncock B. Rutten M. Doughty
HB: A.Otten P.Davis S. Stevens
C: B. Martin S.Thompson (c) D.Mackay
HF: C.Knights T.Walker R.Henderson
F: P.Dangerfield K.Tippett J. Porplyzia

Foll: I. Maric B. Vince R. Sloane
I/C: B. Moran B. Rielly R. Douglas N. van Berlo
Emg: J. Petrenko M. Jaensch B. Symes

Looks like a good team to me, maybe Jaensch for Henderson or something. But this looks like a good first 22 to me.

Armstrong, Tony
McKernan, Shaun
Sellar, James
Shaw, Sam
Cook, Myke
Craig, James
Gunston, Jack
Schmidt, Christopher
Talia, Daniel
Young, Will

These are the players that aren't in the team but are in the squad, minus a couple draftees/trades. I took Griffin out (assuming he goes home) and spudalicious Jacky too.

This leaves us with some good depth, Petrenko for the backlines along with Symes, Jaensch as the half forward who can float through the middle. Craig and Sellar as backup ruckmen with Mckernan being the pinch-hitting ruckman who can play CHB/CHF.

What are your thoughts and would you make any changes to the 22 i listed here?

Jaensch and Young will be pushing hard for a spot. Doughty may still go? May open up a spot.

I think I've lost count how many times the same thread has been posted over the past month.

I would take Sellar over Moran, Knights more than likely will be traded and you forgot Reilly as an inclusion and I wouldnt have Jaensch as an emergency either played really well today.

Why Moran? The guy has done virtually nothing since being traded, except for a couple of pretty average to good games and a heap of injuries.

Moran still has a lot to prove. Wouldn't put him in our best 22 unless he gets fit and plays well in the pre-season. Replace with Sellar, who hasn't been great but at least has the runs on the board and hopefully stays off the injuries from now on.

Knights is as good as gone. Replace with Jaensch.

Douglas not starting 18? Kid is a clearance machine. Swap with Martin who goes on the bench.

He'll be fazed out eventually, but Symes will make our 22. You can put money on that.

Apart from that, looks pretty good. Obviously injuries/form will help make room for blokes like McKernan, Young, Petrenko, etc to get more gametime next year.

I'd prefer Reilly over Captain van non awareness/slip over.

He has been ok this year... Vb doesnt really seem to have any more to offer. Fair enough statement

i thought Doughty was asked to play on next year, which he agreed to with the club. the only thing that could happen to cause him to retire would be a serious injury.

...all i know for sure in 2011 is, Schmidt isn't a starting 22.

Do you know something we all don't? Otherwise, that is a very bold statement when Knights has declared he doesn't want to go anywhere (and said he is in negotiations for a 2 year deal) during the week.

Today showed he is more than capable at the level, shutdown Gilbert brilliantly.

Interesting dynamic coming up as far as choices go.

We have players like Schmidt, Young, Reilly and Doughty who have shown some ability as defensive players and then on the other side of the coin we have more attack minded players like Jaensch, Gunston, Cook, Henderson and Martin.

In many cases 2011 selection will involve a direct choice between the two player types.

I wonder which side Neil will lean towards?

Mackay Doughty and VB look the guys that will want to play well early, they haven't been stunning at all. Young, Symes and Jaench pushing on them. Kristofs list I'd prefer to go in with.
Jaenche will prolly get rising star this week if he does that means he wont be there round 1 the way adelaide picks teams knights or whoever he gets traded for will prolly be in.

Cook doesn't lean to any side but fail

Schmidt played his best game today.

Really don't see doughty as best 22 next year if everyones healthy.

his best game? he has played better games. he was only solid today.

i'd still give Cook a chance. him and Petrenko need a lot of improvement if they ever want to break the starting 22 though.

Doughty will still be easily best 22 next year, form permitting. Provides the experience we need with such a young group, and can still perform at a high enough standard.

That would be my team aswell. Would prefer to have Knights in Jaensch's spot but we will see what the future holds.

I thought he was very good yesterday. Shut Gilbert out of the game completely which robbed St Kilda of so much run out of defence. I think it was his best game in terms of how well he perormed the role he was given.

Just shows me, that yes the best 22 may look alright, but get a few injuries to smalls and we dont have a lot of depth.

Yes, but the one good thing about this year, is a lot of young blokes got a reasonable amount of experience at the highest level and with the way the Crows play footy, its far more of a team effort than a reliance on one or two blokes to do the work.

If we go into the season with 10-12 injuries(even if they're not all starting 18 players) like this year, sure we'll probably struggle, but I don't think our depth is completely hopeless.

Currently(off our senior list) only Craig, Shaw and Talia are without at least 1 AFL game's experience, with a number of kids who will benefit from having another preseason under their belt, who may be ready to stand up and develop into consistent AFL players.

Blokes like Petrenko, Cook, Henderson, Jaensch, Schmidt, Armstrong, Davis, Gunston, Young and Martin, got considerably more gametime than what would have happened had we had close to a full list to choose from and been challenging for finals. They'll all benefit from that experience.
