rough calcs happy to be corrected but finals experience of the teams 22 that played last weekend and bear in mind we have the most experienced injury list i would say

Geelong 196 Games
Hawthorn 178 Games
Sydney 167 Games

its not much different for all the carry on and even if we just got Goodes back we would have 190. Goodes LRT Jetta and Reid have 50 finals games between them.

My point is we are not lacking in finals experience

Players yet to play a final from the weekend

Sydney
Lamb
Rampe
Everitt (but been around enough for it to not matter)

Hawthorn
Duryea
Hill

Geelong
Blicvas
Caddy
Guthrie
Walker

DG I have one question to ask you.

Do you think Lewis Jetta should play finals?

At this stage, no. I can't see how he can be right ... and I fear that his leg injury, whatever its nature, is something that could be at risk of serious damage if he comes back early and rushed. After all, no one thought he'd be still out this deep into the season.

White is playing better than Reid has in a long time. See you next year Sammy.

We're not missing LRT at all so rest up Two Dads.... Get ready for pre-season 2014.

Goodes will come back if he can play 1st week of the finals. He's just a freak and will hit the ground running. Besides, we now have a midfield and a fwd line where Goodes is about number 6 on a list of players that need to be shut down.

Jetta will need a run some stage to get a game. That being said, he's very much an outside player anyway so he only needs his leg speed to be up where it was and he'll probably be worth taking a punt on.

Agree with all bar Jetta. I don't imagine he has done much running with his shin issues, and the one reason he is in the team will be for his run and speed. Endurance has never been his strong suit either, so if his lower leg doesnt snap off, then he'll be burnt after his first 80m run to goal. Rohan would be a better choice for X factor/super sub

Goodes can hop around for the whole of September for all I care. The great man walks in if Horse deems it so.

Basically Reid and LRT won't be back before the finals. We have to decide if we want to risk including them in a final with no match fitness and no time in the reserves. I would say because both would have to come into finals, that rules them both out with LRT the only chance because of his ability to play tall key defender.

Goodes and Jetta are likely to be back in time for Round 23 against the Hawks, thus we have to see where they fit in if at all. Goodes takes White spot everyday of the week, with Jetta either coming in at first for a player dropping out with an injury under the guise of being in fact rested and then going from there.

But I doubt we'll play the same team, nor the same gameplan in Round 23 to what we'll see in Week 1 of the Finals.

Whilst I agree completely with you, I was also sure that Rohan wouldn't get a senior game this year. The difference being that he has had a few runs in the magoos though

And that IS the difference ... I'd be much more encouraged if any of the four had had a game, but they're seemingly a long way from even that.

This thread is fun but it is honestly too early to say anything sensible. Sydney is playing their two biggest rivals for the flag in the next two weeks. It will become very apparent what shortfalls there are in the make-up of the side at the end of that and, hopefully, what adjustments give Sydney a better chance of winning.
Well said, hopefully injuries wont be the deciding factor but anything can happen in the next few weeks on the field or on the track.

This right here shows your complete lack of knowledge.

A player tends to yield only 1 disposal when he does his ACL early in said only final and required a knee reconstruction to come back and play this year.

You really think I didn't know that? but thanks for the welcome friendly mod:)

I only see Goodes coming back this year. With his experience, it would take less time for him to get his touch back, and he has a massive fitness base. LRT gone for the year, and not really needed right now. Jetta and Reid? With Rohan back, and B.Jack doing well, and White playing well, they may well be waiting until next year.

Apparently jetta and Reid are in line to come into the team to play the hawks. If that's the case, count that as a loss as we will be carrying to key underdone players. Unless , hawthorn field a reserve team because top spot is sewn up

If we lose to Geelong we can treat the Hawks game as one for getting run into the legs of returning players and resting others. 4th place with a few rested and a few tested before the finals would be a good position to be in. An almost full list to choose from when it really matters.

Im talking more about the lack of experience for so many of them its not 1 or 2 your looking at 5 or 6
Tend to agree with you. People underrating finals experience here. It's not the same as a home and away game. Teams generally need a lot of finals experience into their players before they have a chance at taking out the big one. I'd take a 80-90% done experienced finals player over a 100% player with none. It's not the normal plays that turn a final, it's the super-normal. The ability of players, no matter how injured (see Teddy, Goodes, Mummy in 2012) to rise above their injuries and limitations, to will themselves upon the contest and to inspire the team through their very presence on the field of battle. Guys like LRT, Goodes and even Jetta have the ability to inspire.

They still have not put a line through Jets , Reid , Goodes , LRT yet , so the way I look at it is that they are gonna give them every chance to get up if fit and the club knows best weather there to underdone or not , they no and we no that all 4 of them are in the best 22 , So until they come out and say that 1 or 2 or all 4 will not play again this year no 1 knows whats going on unless your are inside the 4 walls of the Swans.

Too late for any but Goodes and Rohan to possibly force their way into the side.

The next three games are Geelong, Hawthorn and Hawthorn/Geelong. Take rusty or 90% fit players into these games and they'll carve you up.

It's too late to experiment. Our players are either fit to play this weekend against the Cats, or forget it for the finals.

You can put a line through LRT mate Horse said he was still limping 2 weeks ago, the rest are up to speculation glad i dont have to make the call :p

So I assume if Jetta and Reid get through training this weekend, they'll be picked to face the Hawks and get some match time better the finals. I'd also be surprised if Mitchell wasn't brought back in.

If that's the case, and forgetting Goodesy for the minute, who misses out?

The only logical 3 I can see coming out are:

White
Lamb
Rohan

Alternatively, they may keep Jetta and Rohan in the team for some extra pace but then risk having too many underdone players and leave out both Lamb and Mitchell, who have really stepped up during the back half of the season.

...Take rusty or 90% fit players into these games and they'll carve you up.....

Our premiership team was made up of bandaged bits of champion players. I'd be willing to bet most carried some injury or other. Crikey, Paul Kelly played with broken ribs. Finals are about courage.
