Melbourne
B: James McDonald, Matthew Warnock, Jared Rivers
HB: James Frawley, Stefan Martin, Brock McLean
C: Jamie Bennell, Aaron Davey, Clint Bartram
HF: Matthew Bate, Colin Sylvia, Cale Morton
F: Brad Miller, Ricky Petterd, Brent Moloney
Foll: Paul Johnson, Cameron Bruce, Brad Green
I/C (from): John Meesen, Kyle Cheney, Nathan Jones, Lynden Dunn, Neville Jetta, Jake Spencer, Michael Newton

My bench: Meesen, Jones, Cheney, Dunn

I wouldn't be surprised if someone like McDonald or Jones played on the HBF this week, we are so short on small defenders.

I see Spencer isn't listed as starting in the ruck this week, makes me think that's he's the one getting the chop.

Rather Spencer get some more experience and send PJ back to Casey to get some form.

My God how I miss the big Russian.

I never thought I would share this sentiment, but I do at the moment.

For me, the bench would consist of: Meesen, Cheney, Jones and Newton

I was thinking include Dunn and he could do one of two jobs.

1. Shut down Chad Cornes like he's done before, thus freeing Bartram or whoever was going to get the job on him for another player.

Or

2. Play as God intended him to play as the forward he is.

Couldn't agree more. Was drafted as a forward & played his first handful of games as a forward. Combined with the fact that he has a huge tank, I think he should be played as the high floating forward - which allows Miller to play closer to goal. He is a much better option than playing Newton in my opinion.

is it just me or do they look a lot better than us on paper

Find me a team that doesn't.

Couple of good players out for them though, can't hurt.

They look like they're OK on paper but it's the same group who were, arguably, just as dismal as the Dees for three quarters last week. Seems they were struggling with skill errors, turnovers and conversion which sounds all too familiar.

They do look good on paper. In fact they look too good for us . Brogan The Bogan is a big in for them. Motlop will carve us up as will the Cornes Boys. Look like our record at AAMI won't bbe inproved. Our average shellacking there is 73 points I believe. I'll be happy if we get within 6 goals or around 40 points.

By the way, we haven't been this high on the ladder for a whole season. I think last year after we got pumped 100+ by the Hawks we remained last for the whole year. Never got off the bottom. W play Richmond next week in Round 4 ..so that might decide the wooden spoon.

I'll be content with the draft picks this year. I am a realist. Thank you very much.

It's round 3 piss off with your draft pick talk until the end of the season.

I don't see how Jamar will improve the side that much, seriously. So we win a few more hit outs, our midfield isn't good enough to take advantage of them anyway. And Jamar is just as bad around the ground, not to mention his disposal. The guys in there aren't doing a great job, but I'm hardly looking forward to Jamar coming in and fixing the problem, cause I don't see it happening. Play Spence untill the experiences start having a negative affect on him, but he seems to type to be keen to play and improve as much as possible.

Well you see Jamar gets quite a few taps to advantage, doesn't get manhandled in the ruck and does fight for the contested ball very well. He's not going to solve all the ruck problems but he will at least make our ruck combo competitive and not get blown out of the water week in and week out.

bad news: just released our team - and McDonald out... injury?

Backs: Dunn Warnock Rivers
Half-backs: Frawley Martin McLean
Centres: Bennell Davey Bartram
Half-forwards: Bate Sylvia Morton
Forwards: Miller Petterd Moloney
Followers: Johnson Bruce
Rover: Green
Interchange: Meesen Cheney Jones Jetta
Emergencies: Newton Spencer Maric

In: Meesen Dunn
Out: Spencer McDonald
New: John Meesen, 22, Adelaide

Saved Jetta his spot. Disappointing news nonetheless, hopefully not serious, we have a long enough injury list as it is.

Big opportunity for the Meese, and Dunn's return is long overdue. Would prefer to see him forward, but we might need him to play a tagging role in the back half this week.

Huge test of PJ and Meesen, you won't get much better than Lade and Brogan as a ruck duo.

Interesting they'd drop Rodan. Haven't seen either of their games but i would've thought he was definitely in their best 22.
He has played ok, just no where near his usual standard.

We have a heap of young guys knocking on the door of our 22 at the moment, and if someone isnt playing close to their best, they will probably be unlucky.

Though it was a surprise to me aswell, he played pretty well against Essendon.

AFL.com.au said:
MELBOURNE skipper James McDonald has withdrawn from the Demons' side to play Port Adelaide on Sunday with a hamstring injury.

His place in the team has been taken by Lynden Dunn.

Both the Power and Fremantle have named debutants for their Sunday clashes.

Exciting rookie forward Wade Thompson has been elevated to the senior list in place of Jackson Trengove, who has been placed on the long-term injury list, and will play against the Demons.

Fremantle has named defender Greg Broughton for his first game, against Adelaide at Subiaco.

The 22-year-old played every pre-season match for Freo.

“He doesn’t get rattled and he has no fear about putting it on the line,” coach Mark Harvey said.

“He’s dogged, determined, hates to be beaten and plays with the desire that you look for."

North Melbourne has named former skipper Adam Simpson and Daniel Pratt in the team to face Hawthorn on Sunday despite queries on their mental state following this week's 'rooster' video controversy.

Great just what we need more injuries and to our captain nonetheless.

This is how i would like to see the boys line up come the first bounce:

B: Jamie Bennell, Matthew Warnock, Jared Rivers

HB: Kyle Cheney, James Frawley, Clint Bartram

C: Cale Morton, Aaron Davey, Cameron Bruce

HF: Colin Sylvia, Lynden Dunn, Matthew Bate

F: Ricky Petterd, Brad Miller, Brad Green

Foll: John Meesen, Brock McLean, Brent Moloney

I/C: Paul Johnson, Stefan Martin, Nathan Jones, Neville Jetta

Interesting match-ups will be Ebert and Motlop.

Preferably we'd have Garland and Frawley to play on them, however without Colin, we may be in a bit of strife. Martin is quick and agile for his size, but he would be cut in half by someone like Motlop, and he's too tall to take Ebert.

Frawley to Motlop.

Who knows with Ebert. I've never been so disappointed to see Bell's name not on that teamsheet.
