About the season ahead?

For a while there we were up and down each year, and we went poorly last year - but the last time we missed finals two years in a row would have been about 1996 or so, right?

During that time, this is the first season we've entered where I've genuinely got no hope for the team to have an impact. That worries me.

My main hope for Melbourne this year is that our Administration hasn't been shaken up TOO much, and that financially we move forward, and perhaps get a bit more media attention. As for on field, I must honestly say, I am not that interested in us this year.

Maybe it's because I've been following a lot of other sports more and more over the last few years - but I'm afraid I'm becoming one of "them" - our bandwagon supporters. I am officially terrified.

... don't worry though, I'm still a paid up member either way.

I'm a little apprehensive but looking forward to it. I'm excited about the youngsters coming through and I anticipate a far improved year over the last one. We're not as bad as people make out imo.

Definitely not terrified, but not expecting anything better then a Top 8 finish. We will be big improvers but we need a little bit of time to adapt to DB's coaching style under match conditions. I am looking forward to how the side functions without TJ, seeing a few of the kids strut their stuff and whether or not Neitz can hold it together for 22 rounds.

I must admit that I'm looking forward to the NAB cup match vs Geelong. I'll be making the drive down. I won't care too much if we lose but I give us a reasonable chance of winning and I'd love the win, as well as seeing the youngsters in action.

I'm not terrified. Just happy that footy is back, it's about time. I'd be more terrified at the start of the season if we actually were expected to do anything.

Not sure if I'll train it or drive down for the Cats game, might be worthwhile driving instead, I think.

I would think that Melbourne are a pretty good chance for bottom 4 this year.
However, it's probley the best thing in the long run really. Get some good young talent over a few years rather than make the finals with no real chance of winning a premiership.

You might not make the 8 for 3-4 years, but when you do, it'll be for real.

Agree, but i only think we'll need about another 2 years at the bottom. Then we will have some freakish young talent.

I just don't know what to expect. Seriously the club gives me such a roller coast ride of emotions. Such joy and such dissapointment. Lol I reckon every single interstate game we play (meaning most likely we'll lose) there has been a domestic disturbance in my house.

I'm like you dutchy. I'd be a lot less anxious if all our key players were on the park in Canberra. Let's face it, the club is never up-front when it comes to injuries. McLean 50-50, Bruce 4-6 weeks, Rivers modified training, Bartram rehab, Whelan rehab, Dunn groin. Who knows when they'll actually play!

I'm praying that we don't put up an insipid display (like collingwood) against the Cats.

Paid up or not, it's still a B.S. attitude. You're one of the mongrels who; although we had a record m'ship last year, were responsible for us attracting less than a 20'000 crowd on 3-4 occasions. P/weak!!!

You know what, you're right - I should just not sign up at all. Consider me gone for 2009. Thanks Ricky15 - you enlightened me.

No probs bro! You're from Brighton anyway, you'll just use your MCC membership on the 2 occasions a year you want to rock up. I suppose your mummy and daddy pay for both anyway, so it's a win win for everybody.

You idiot. If you have followed Melbourne for any length of time then you will understand where he is coming from. To be honest, another poor year will NOT do us any favours at all. We aren't like the Collingwood's or Essendon's where a year or two at the bottom doesn't hurt us. In fact, it's quite the opposite for us. We may be on the way up in terms of how we financially, but we still rely a little bit on good years to get us there.

As always, I'm excited to see how Bailey and co. go this year, but there is still a little bit of worry about it too. While I'm confident that we are going in the right direction, we would much rather have a good season than a bad one. He's far from being a mongrel - he's just being realistic.

So 25yrs isn't enough to understand anything? OK then.... Um, where was my reference to us requiring another poor year anyway? I want us to do as well as possible at every outing, as most who attend all our games do. i don't give a rats a** about rebuilding / draft picks, i just want to go out and see our fellas do as well as we possibly can at every outing. St. Kilda spent 30 odd years at the a** end of the ladder and how many p/ships has it brought them? You just need the right people running the operation, and at this particular point in time i am quietly confident that we may have almost reached that point (besides our club president). I too believe Baily can bring us good things, and am excited about our prospects over the years to come, however i don't want to listen to Jokers downgrading our club before a ball has even been bounced for the season.

Terrified???? Dead set, must be watching too many pansy sports.

As for the first part, I was referring to the fact that Pilkington was talking about how we could possibly have another bad year and I was AGREEING by saying a bad year is definately something we don't need. I was just backing him up. It's not all about you.

And I think you'll find that he isn't downgrading at all - I think you've gone way overboard with your reaction to what he said. Everyone approaches a season differently. At least he still bought his membership.

GO DEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!im excited try and drag me away from this club i dont care how bad we are going (hoping we go good) bring on the cats and beyond we couldnt possibly go worse than last year the only way is up baby yea!!!!!

I love all the half witted experts out there that are certain that we will be 14th to 16th this season. It's really sad that the mainstream media is as unable to think beyond what we did last year as the main board of Bigfooty. Three consecutive years of finals footy followed by a season devastated by injuries and suddenly we are a shit list in need of a rebuild.

How the hell does a young and talented list that was one of the 2 Victorian teams seen as a chance to win the premiership at the start of 2007 become a hopeless old mess by the end of the year? Lazy journalism and ill-bred mob-think is the culprit here. We only need a good run of luck to run through the comp this year. Sir Brock actually has a pre season under his belt for the first time, Rivers is back, we have a coach who just might possibly have a plan B!!

We are back and we will smash some heads in 2008. I can't ****ing wait.

ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY agree fully we were tipped 4 top 4 at this time last year our list hasnt changed that much apart from some more youth and the loss of johnstone we can only go up from here anything else would be a waste if we can pick up baileys game plan quickly and have a decent run with injuries then i believe we can make the 8 if we beat geelong next week i reakon they will get a lot of confidence from it and away we go but a loss certainly wouldnt be the end of the world bring it on i say

Based on what I saw in Canberra... (especially once I could compare it to the Crows/Filth game)
Based on all the off-season news, good and bad...
Based on everything I know, hve heard, and have seen in person of Den Bailey...
Bsed on the overhaul of he footy department and the addition of two (quality) development coaches and, frankly, a jackpot bonus football manager...

Boo-yaa! Bring it on!

No fear going into 2008 for me. Expectations are low from the general public, I'm 100% certin we'll pass them, and then some.

Part of me is also looking forward to 2009 and the new home facilities.

And remember, courage is when you are terrified of something but take action regardless. Get visible, kick a ball aound with some mates, sign up a supporter. You know th drill, get to it.

Dees supporters shouldn't be getting stuck into other Dees supporters - any one would think we were Geelong players (ala Ling v Johnson) :D

The Dees are great value at 41-1 for the premiership because we are going to kick some serious **** this season so lets stick together and enjoy the ride! GO DEES!!!!!:thumbsu:
