Roach looks to be doing ok, but I agree with what JohnF is saying, there isnt too much mass gain in the overall picture of the training squad.

They need mass, with muscle and stamina to be able to bust packs and fend of opposition attackers. Tom Roach looks on the way, and his shoulders to head ratio looks like he is probably very advanced for someone his age. Will turn out to be quite solid in a year or two more of body maturity. His forearms give a hint there I think.

Deledio has the shoulders to be genuinley strong and fit, but I believe he will take 2 or 3 seasons to 'fit' into his body.

Going harder on some core weights might hamper kids this young. You'd want to see em alot more solid in 2 years time though.

i think TW is paying more attention to a fast game plan and getting our skills up to standard. evrey training session ive been to he always has some sorta small intraclub match goin and plenty of skilled based activities. im just guessing that may be why they arent doing as much weight training as some of you guys believe they should be.... just a guess though

You cannot expect the kids to get AFL size untill 20 I reckon.

Roach looks ok, nothing special. I know he is young and on his way though so my comment shouldn't really apply to all the youngsters on the list.

None the less, the older players haven't shown any real size increase in my opinion.

I agree as an overall unit we are still way too skinny. There are few guys that have really put on some serious muscle however

Rodan,Jacko,Raines,Chaffey,Simmonds,Cogs have all increased in size substatially.Even Kellaway seems a fair bit bigger than I remember him.Jackson in particular is really packing on the muscle.Very impressive for an 18 year old.i can see him being built like Riccuitto at 21.

A few guys need way more muscle and I agree with a few others here that they should be pumping iron every given chance. As any 1/2 decent physical trainer and body builder knows you can alternate training the different muscle groups each 24 hours so one is resting whilee the other group is being worked.

Meyer and Polo are absolute weeds, understandable as they're still growing probably.Gilmour has put on a little but still has way more to do.Roach is still too light for AFL imo.And I'm dissapointed Krak hasn't put on a bit.I reckon Macleod really came into his own when he started bulking up.Krak will always get knocked off the ball too easily at his current size.

Hall hasn't put on 1 ounce it seems. You'd think he'd be working harder than anyone.

Moore has a long way to go if he is going to be KPP player but he has put a little on.

Bowden is pretty huge now. Far bigger than last season. Roden looks alot bigger alround.

Id agree though, we need the blokes 20-26 to get as big as possbile. I wont rate the likes of Jackson, Deledio, Meyer, Roach, Raines etc. untill another pre-season or 2.

But still, you expect Newman, Hyde etc. to really bulk up.

A few players have gotten slightly bigger, that's true, but getting a little bit bigger over preseason is not enough, we need guys to be looking a LOT bigger this time of year.

As soon as the season starts and they won't be able to work out as frequently they will start to shrink and by seasons end they will look the same as what they did at 2004's year end.

At the start of the season every team looks pumped up, but only the few players that do serious weights retain much of that form for the duration of the year.

I don't see much improvement in most guys at the club.

My mate leaves 50 meters from Moorabbin (the training ground). We headed down to Saints training the other day. Ill tell give ya the drum fellers. Our 2nd/3rd/4th year blokes looks like fooking runts compared to Luke Ball, Breddan Goddard and co.

:(

How is Pettifer looking? At this time last year, when we had our first Wizard Wok outing against the Bulldogs, Pettifer was the one who had noticably bulked up which had paved the way for him having easily his best season.

Has he continued this improvement onwards?

I reckon Deledio and Jackson have similar bodies. Both could be monsters :)

Arms and shoulders one day

legs and back the next.

Alternate daily until they pee blood.

So by your 5 sessions per week theory, each part of the body only gets 2-3 sessions per week because its being halved at the same time
Much better to alternate days with strength one day & cardio the next
