Tex kicks a lazy nine!!

Saw some of the game and he has a lovely kick on him but I agree wiht Stiffy that he is too small for AFL at the moment as would have to play on a flank or in a pocket. Very exciting prospect though.

Otten for McGregor might be the change for next week or maybe Trent will get a run, can't hurt I think.

:D

Was about to post the same thing :p

Its a good thig that Walker is playing some good games in the SANFL this year. He is a goal kicker no doubt about it but lets keep things in perspective. He is still a fair way off being an AFL player.

He is a stick figure and would get snapped in half at the next level. Let him play out the year in SANFL, develop his game and his body and introduce him next year. Unless of course we are at the point of having no chance of making the 8 (hard with the 8-3 record) then you give him a game to get a taste of it.

On the money, Stiffy.

Walker is an exciting young player but not ready body-wise IMO. He needs to thicken up his whole body to withstand the physical pressure of AFL footy.

Give him another proper pre-season with plenty of weight work and then play him - I think we'll be well rewarded for the wait. :thumbsu:

I recorded the game and I've had a look through it - I do like what I saw from Walker. He's a footballer not an athlete. :thumbsu:

Agreed.... Crows supporters musn't rush in to things. Get him a good couple of years in the Gym and he'll be gunning it for us.

He's certainly got a good lead and kick and that was the first time I've seen him (on TV). I think we're pretty lucky. Aish doesn't look to bad either.

we always take the conservative approach, for the 2nd time in 15 years we have something to be excited about

i say let people be excited.

 he'll probably play there anyway.
That's where I'd expect him to play. Put him alongside Tippett and keep Porpz as a crumber or quick lead up player.

But we'll save that idea till Walkers AFL ready.

Then again it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring him in against a team you'd expect them to not be able to get an easy matchup on him, AKA Bassett on anyone today.

I understand he is a bit on the thin side but how does he compare against someone like Westhoff for build ?

I would leave him in the SANFL this year just to keep finding his feet. Although he keeps doing that its going to be hard.

I know your a Norwood fan so that might also influence your decision, BUT I think you are right we dont need to rush this guy in so I also think let him have this year at the SANFL to continue to develop.

THis guy is going to be a gun, I heard rumours that the Crows deliberately down played any media about Walker and kept their cards close to their chest about using their NSW pick on him to ensure that other clubs and people in the media didnt try and find some sort of way for the AFL to try and Bryce Gibbs him. The AFC apparently were pretty sure that they struck gold with this kid even before he was recruited.

Difficult to compare those two as Westhoff is 10cm taller.

To me, hes got the same build Jericho had when he first started out.

Certainly looks to have a truck load of talent but like others I see him more as a 3rd forward or maybe a Welsh role instead of a full on KPF.

I'd leave Walker a few more weeks. Keep in mind he has been struggling in the last month and evan started on the bench, but it was a great return to form. He is not a key forward more like a medium forward but that might change over time.

A good game from Kite yesterday. He cooped a knock early and had some vision problems but he played out the game well.

I haven't been this excited since Fergus Watts kicked 10 goals for the Eagles!

As much as WE talked Watts up as the next big thing, in the cold hard light of day, when you look at his SANFL performances, he probably only played not much more than a half a dozen better than average SANFL games. Tex has played 2 out of 6.

In our desperation to find a key forward, I reckon he was hugely overrated by many on this board, myself included. Too be honest in the few times I saw the Eagles live, i thought the lanky Dale Ellis looked a better player.

Neil Craig has clearly stated there are a number of things Walker needs to work on. That being the defensive side to his game.

Unless he has made dramatic improvement in that area I don't see him getting a game at AFL level under Craigy as having a strong defensive side is one of Craigy's non-negotiables.

Taylor's a freak and will play this year, could be playing next week instead of McGregor. 9.1 in any competition is outstanding, let alone being the SANFL.

When he was named in AA u/18 amoungst Kreuzer, Coctchin et al whilst only playing 3 interstate games for NSW/ACT, there was no doubt in my mind this kid would be an absolute steal at pick 70 odd.

No doubts either that Adelaide played down how good he actually was before he was drafted, they were extremely smart with what they did. James Fantasia thank you very much for this rare talent of a player.

Forget his size for a second guys...he's been playing against men since the age of 15 and dominating them too. Put him in the AFL, Broken Hill is a very tough and rough league, he will not be taking any backwards steps.

absolutely dead right,he has been playing against men since he was 15 and there is nothing like playing against half crazed farmers and shearers that only get let out once a week.(no harm intended) also another thing to remember he comes from broken hill, not a lot of rain only flash flooding and i think he has played a few night games where the conditions have been pretty slippery not ideal for someone that bases his game around marking and long kicking. so all in all i think he has done remarkably well in such a short amount of time.

Not that you can rely on the sunday mail, but it said it was nine straight.
Would love for him to debut, but I reckon he could do that for two months straight and craigy still wouldn't play him.
Does any one know if the game will be replayed during the week on abc 2 if so details would be great.
If not any idea how i could find out?
