Am I the only one who gets frustrated with the incorrect use of the most simplistic of English language? Alternatively, being a 33 year old, have I missed something in the generational teaching gap that could possibly mean I am just out of touch? As such, I pose the following question to the more astute BigFooty members.

When did "then" become the replacement word for "than"? I add to my question as per the following examples, which have become common in most threads in recent times.

"Player Y is better then player X"
"Our team is better then yours"

To those who find it an insignificant, petty thread I do apologise. I just feel that with the current lingo being used in the AFL by commentators ie; quarterback, zone defense etc, do we really need to become fully subordinant to the USA way of life? After all, we are better than (then

Probably, yeah.

You're right, but I've seen a great deal of abuse of the English language over the years of my use of the Internet, and it really seems pointless to try to do anything about it. As long as I can figure out what they mean by context, I generally don't care. I'm sure I make various mistakes in my grammar - and I'm a pretty sh***y writer anyhow, and I'm not particularly keen to invite scrutiny of my own quality of posting by criticising others.

This is about the millionth thread on these subjects (spelling and grammar). You've got your 'a' and 'an' threads, 'learned' and 'learnt' threads and it goes on and on and on...
